Mag-drive pumps are economical and leak-free The Wilden Typhoon plastic mag-drive pumps from AxFlow are designed to handle a wide variety of chemicals and other low pH process fluids. This is achieved without the mechanical seals that are required by typical centrifugal pumps – so reducing the eventuality of leakage. Available in power ratings of 0.75 kW (1 hp) to 3.75 kW (5 hp), and flow rates up to 800 l/m, the pump is described as a compact unit that can help to increase productivity, reduce operating costs and give the leak-free performance, demanded by many chemical duties. AxFlow's Wilden Typhoon pumps also incorporate a
channel offered on most magnetic drive centrifugal pumps. Pump designers at Wilden report that this feature prevents the heat build-up that frequently damages or completely disables the shaft bushing.

Other notable features include a patented buffer system which absorbs vibrations and shock that can result from adverse operating conditions. Applications where the Typhoon has proved more effective than alternative designs – even when questions about the suitability of mag-drive pumps have been raised – include transferring copper acid, caustic soda, water with trace sulphuric acid and liquid ammonia.

these pumps exclusively since 2003 for moving cooling lubricants on machining centres at its engine plants, says Allweiler. The Emtec-A is based on a flexible design and is available in several versions. It includes a special safety feature that prevents sudden failure of the pump, which remains a risk with other conventionally designed pump units. The spindle and rotor housing use materials with a hardness of 1200 HV. Combined with complete hydrostatic thrust compensation for the spindles, and a variety of sealing systems, this makes the pump ideally suited for use with tool machines. These pumps are capable of operating at flow rates of 900 1/minute at a pressure up to 15 MPa (13o bar), with a maximum contamination level of 250 mg/1 and maximum filter fineness of 100 mµ micrometres.
Single pump replaces several parallel process lines Process technology company APV has introduced what it says is one of the largest, highefficiency, hygienic centrifugal pumps on the market. According to APV, which is a subsidiary of UK company Invensys Plc, the W+ 50/600 pump is capable of operating at a capacity of 750 m³/h and performs optimally at 50 mwc and 600 m³/h with an exceptionally high efficiency. For bulk applications, a single W+ 50/600 pump is able to replace several parallel process lines. This simplifies the plant set-up, reduces the requirement for spare parts, and is more favourable financially in terms of both initial purchase and operating costs. On electricity consumption alone, calculations show, that if one W+ 50/600 pump is installed instead of two smaller pumps, the total energy costs typically can be reduced by 3800 a year (based on a running period of 2700 hours). APV says that the pump was developed especially for large filtration applications and represents the latest extension to a product line of the proven W+ centrifugal pumps.
