In Brief • Swedish screw pump manufacturer IMO AB has signed a 2-year global service agreement with Wärtsilä to establish a stronger after-sales network for IMO’s products. “We are always looking to increase the services we can offer and by signing this agreement our customers will have a new means of access to spares and services for the upgrading and retrofitting of existing IMO pump installations in a wide range of applications. IMO products will also be the first choice for Wärtsilä in all our service projects,” said Olav Pellas, Wärtsilä regional field service director, South Europe & Africa. Pentair, GE Water explore residential water treatment JV

entair Inc and GE Water & Process Technologies are in discussions to establish a joint venture to combine their respective global water softener and residential water filtration businesses. Pentair would own approximately 80% of the joint venture interests, and GE Water & Process Technologies would own approximately 20%. The combined businesses had 2007 net sales of approximately US$450 million. Pentair says that the two companies believe that this joint venture creates significant sales growth opportunities and other operating synergies, and would accelerate the global development of innovative technologies to serve the residential water filtration and treatment market.

DAB acquires Alma Pompe

AB Pumps SpA has acquired Alma Pompe Srl, a drainage and wastewater electro pump specialist based in Fizzonasco (Milano), Italy. Renamed Alma Pumps srl, the acquired company will continue to operate independently. CEO Alberto Cervi and his team will stay with the company, while founder Luigino Cervi will continue as a commercial consultant. DAB, part of the Grundfos Group, is headquartered in Mestrino (PD). The Italian company produces and sells more than 2.5 million electro pumps annually, and has a turnover of more than 220 million.

Strong growth forecast for Asian pump market
I
ndustrial pump sales in Asia could reach US$15.4 billion in 2012. That’s according to the McIlvaine Co’s online report, Pumps World Market. McIlvaine expects 2008 Asian pump sales to reach US$11.7 billion, with approximately 32% growth forecast over the next four years. “We see China as a major growth market for industrial pump sales, particularly in the area of wastewater treatment,” said Robert McIlvaine, president of the McIlvaine Co. “As the Chinese population continues to migrate into urban areas, China will be building new wastewater treatment plants in many of its cities.
