Flowmeter can measure chemically aggressive fluids Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser, has developed the Proline Promag 55S, a high performance electromagnetic flowmeter designed for use in the mining, pulp and paper, pharmaceutical and food industries.

Grundfos pump meets hygiene standards Grundfos has released its new positive displacement rotary lobe pump – NOVAlobe, designed for high viscosity liquids, and aimed at meeting the latest hygiene standards in sterile and aseptic processes. This new pump is designed for application including beverage, liquid food, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, environment and surface treatment. For the surface finish of the materials, Grundfos have used materials that meet the requirements of the pharmaceutical, food and the beverage industries, the company says, to help prevent possible breeding grounds for bacteria and germs.

manager, flow, the Promag 55S can ensure that these fluids are all measured with a high degree of accuracy. “Process noise in these demanding applications often interferes with the measurement. This occurs when the fluid contains a high solid content or entrained air bubbles,” he says. “Thanks to its optimised Pulsed DC technology, the Promag 55S offers excellent measurement reproducibility, accuracy and stability in the noisiest flow applications. “The Promag 55S is the first magmeter to use solid content flow computation and is easy to combine with a gamma density meter.”
Promag 55S incorporates a high performance transmitter and employs an optimised magnetic field frequency to improve the signal to noise ratio. The device offers a combination of liner material and electrode design to meet the differing demands of the industry. For example, a natural rubber liner with brush electrodes is used for highly abrasive, rocky slurry; a polyurethane liner with tungsten carbide coated electrodes is used for fine slurries; a high temperature PFA lining with duplex electrodes is used for concentrated black liquors, and a hygienic PFA liner with bow electrodes is used for fruit mashes.

According to Verder, it requires dramatically less power consumption than other pumps, and its energy rating of Eff1 (below 1.1kW) provides much lower capital running costs.
The Verderflex Dura range of hose pumps, comprising Dura 10, Dura 15 and Dura 25, is designed for the brewing, ceramics, chemicals, manufacturing, mining, water and waste industries. The pumps are based on a torquecoupled design and offer an extremely small footprint (up to 70% less plant real estate than other pumps), high energy efficiency and low capital installation costs, the company says.
“Verderflex Dura has been designed to incorporate a number of features such as the unique torque-coupled design that gives greater reliability and therefore lower maintenance costs,” says James Gooder, product development engineer at Verder.
Testing by the company shows that the pumps have high performance and reliability levels, allowing users to maximise uptime. It has fewer system components reducing both maintenance time and repair costs and a solid rotor design that requires no shims.
