Gersthofen, Germany to expand output by a further 15%. The addition of the new equipment makes Clariant’s Production Plant for Micronized Waxes one of the largest wax micronization units worldwide.

especially in the aerospace industry. Due to its low thermal conductivity only a very thin coating is necessary for impact, thereby ensuring that the component weight of the rotating turbines is kept to a minimum.

Natural solutions for high performance coatings Imerys Talc will highlight the sustainable and technical benefits of its high aspect ratio and ultrafine talcs and line of Plastorit extenders at ECS 2013. Ultrafine Jetfine, a natural, inert, freeflowing talc powder, is an outstanding, cost-efficient titanium dioxide extender, which supports prime pigment dispersion and enhances hiding power. Another natural, inert, free-flowing talc from the firm is Luzenac HAR, which has excellent barrier properties. It significantly improves corrosion, salt-spray resistance and settling. Plastorit, the firms inert, functional mineral extender for high-performance coatings, has superior wetting properties and low viscosity buildup, enabling VOC reduction by up to 30%. Plastorit is a unique, natural coalescence of mica, chlorite and quartz. Original Source: Pitture e Vernici – European Coatings, Mar/Apr 2013, 97 (Website: http://www.pittureevernici.it/)

LITERATURE New PPG data sheet matches powder coatings, AAMA performance specs PPG Industries’ industrial coatings business has published a new data sheet that categorizes PPG architectural powder coatings according to American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) performance standards. The data sheet details formulations and suggested applications for four PPG powder coatings – Envirocron Durable, Envirocron Ultradurable, Coraflon and Duranar coatings – and classifies them according to AAMA 2603, 2604 or 2605 performance specifications. Envirocron Durable powder coatings are formulated to meet the specifications of AAMA 2603, which is the least rigorous of these standards and typically associated with coatings for lowrise and residential buildings. Envirocron Ultradurable powder coatings are designed to meet AAMA 2604 specifications and are favoured for high-traffic environments in buildings such as schools, hospitals and retail stores. High-end products such as Duranar and Coraflon powder coatings are most often specified for curtain walls, storefronts and other highly visible monumental applications because they meet AAMA 2605 specifications, which include the most demanding criteria for durability and longterm colourfastness. The data sheet also features a table that enables architects, specifiers and building product manufacturers to compare PPG architectural powder coatings by warranty, performance testing standards, gloss levels and other criteria. Many architects, specifiers and building product manufacturers favour powder coatings for their hardness, durability and environmental attributes. Because powder coatings contain no solvents, they emit virtually no MAY 2013
