Vacuum News Initially Cornell commissioned two design studies, one from an American company and the other from Oxford Instruments. Intensely competitive international tendering then pursued for the manufacture of the magnet in which Oxford was successful chiefly as a consequence of its advanced technological features and total system capability. A delighted Dr Martin Wilson, head of special projects at Oxford Instruments said ‘We are particularly pleased at securing this contract not just because it was won in the face of intensive international competition but also because it confirms Oxford’s credibility in the big magnet league’. High energy accelerators, fusion reactors and magnetic separators are all machines expected to require big superconducting magnets in the future. Rochester Instrument Systems acquires Terra Companies-new products added to RIS range for power and process industries Rochester Instrument Systems Ltd. based in Crayford, Kent, has announced the acquisition by Rochester Instrument Systems Inc in USA, of Terra Technology Corporation and Terra Computer Systems Inc of Redmond, Washington. The purchase will provide the fastexpanding UK company with new high-technology products to add to its growing range of process monitoring systems and equipment. Oxfords magnets for NMR. The Terra companies design and manufacture computer-based seismic measurement and recording equipment for electric generating plants and geophysical exploration; power distribution line analysers; plus hardened portable computers and data acquisition systems for industrial environments. Dr E N Hernandez, founder of the Terra companies in 1973 and a former University of Washington professor of geophysics and electrical engineering, will continue as an active consultant in the development of new products for utilities and process industries. The Terra companies operate a 21,000 square foot engineering and manufacturing facility in Redmond, a suburb of Seattle. With facilities in Kent England, Rochester New York and Toronto _. Canada, RIS designs, manufactures and markets electronic instruments and systems for monitoring, data acquisition, and control in the worldwide process and power industries. Ceramaseal Testbourne Ltd have been appointed the sole distributors for the Ceramaseal products in the United Kingdom. Ceramaseal offer one of the largest selections of ceramic to metal components, many suitable for pressure, high vacuum and uhv, as well as high and low temperature applications.

With nearly three thousand NMR magnets installed world wide, Oxford Instruments is the leading manufacturer of high homogeneity superconducting magnets for NMR spectroscopy.

The components include seals, bushings, connectors, terminals, thermocouples, windows, cables, headers, electrical isolators, coaxial connectors, flanges, mini flanges, rotary motion feedthroughs and many more.

A wide range of magnets is produced with field strengths in the range corresponding to 1 O&500 MHz with resolutions of up to 0.001 ppm and field stabilities of better than 0.01 ppm h-l. The magnets are housed in low consumption cryostats with helium hold times in excess of 132 days and various room temperature bore sizes to accommodate specific sample sizes. Also available is a full range of

Testbourne is the first formal distributor to be appointed in the United Kingdom for ceramaseal and this most useful and extensive product range is therefore now available through a local British company offering full product guarantees at competitive prices.
