STABILIZERS IN THE EEC

A new study from Frost & Sullivan assesses the markets for heat and light stabilizers in the EEC. It predicts that W. Germany, the largest producer, will in fact show the lowest growth rates, while France will show a high consumption increase. Consumption of these stabilizers will be strongly influenced by the rapid growth of polypropylene (expected to grow by 7%/year in the EEC). Of the 3,100 tonnes of UV stabilizers used in 1986 in this sector, about four-fifths was used in polypropylene. The market for heat stabilizers for PVC is not expected to grow beyond its present total since PVC sales are showing a slight decline at present. The HALS are predicted to be the fastest growing of the UV stabilizers, and barium/ zinc, calcium/zinc, and organotins will overtake the lead compounds in the heat stabilizer sector.
