The Aldec 10 operates in the capacity range from 0.2 m3/h to 2 m3/h and has been developed for sludge dewatering and thickening duties in low capacity sewage treatment works. It can also be used in potable water treatment plants and to help small- and medium-sized companies cut the cost of industrial waste disposal, which as landfill space becomes more scare, is likely to become increasingly expensive. According to the manufacturer, the Aldec 10 can handle a variety of different sludges ranging from those with very low levels of dissolved solids (DS), typically less than 1%, to sludges with solids contents 10 to 20 times higher. This makes the decanter suitable for thickening and dewatering sludges typically encountered in the diary, food and industrial process industries says the manufacturer, in addition to application in the water quality sector. suit individual sludges and specific end user dewatering and thickening duties. For example, the system can be set up for centrate clarity or solid dryness simply by varying parameters,such as the pond depth and differential speed between the conveyor and the bowl.

Test kit promises to find the best lab filter option The Turbo-Filter test kit, recently introduced by Schleicher & Schuell, can speed up the filtration process in small-scale laboratory applications says the manufacturer, resulting in clear filtrates in the shortest possible time. The kit contains a digital LabTimer and five grades of qualitative filter paper with retention properties from 2-micron to 15-micron. These can be used to ascertain the best filter options for any given application in the laboratory environment. In addition, the pack comes with a manual and an instructional CD and video pack to ensure that end users use the test kit correctly and get the best results out of the package. According to the manufacturer, the kit enables customers to determine the optimum filter paper for their application within 15 minutes. The company further claims that by selecting the right filter end users can reduce the amount of time dedicated to daily filtration routines by as much as 50%. End users can test these claims for themselves now that the system is released into the market place.

Kimberly-Clark Filtration Products has introduced Intrepid® rigid pleat media, a family of synthetic media made from bicomponent fibers consisting of polypropylene and polyethylene, for application in HVAC systems and other similar duties involving the removal of airborne dust and dirt. According to the manufacturer, the media does not absorb moisture or support microbial or fungal growth. It is made with continuous filaments, so will not shed fibres and does not use chemical binders, so will not react with other chemicals. Available in three efficiency levels - 65% efficient (MERV 11), 85% efficient (MERV 13-14) and 95% efficient (MERV 14-15). The media are supplied in roll form, and can be specified to meet a wide variety of end user size and performance capabilities. 10 October 2004
