78 December 14 - 16, 1987: Eighth Miami International Conference on Alternative Energy Sources The Eighth Miami International Conference on Alternative Energy Sources will be held on December 14 - 16, 1987, in Miami Beach, FL, U.S.A., and will be presented by the Clean Energy Research Institute, University of Miami, in cooperation with the International Association for Hydrogen Energy. In the highly successful series of Alternative Energy Sources Conferences, the 8th Miami International Conference on Alternative Energy Sources is now being planned. In the tradition established by the earlier meetings, it will provide an event w o r t h y of this important energy subject. It is expected to be a landmark event in the world's accelerating search for new clean and abundant sources of energy. The rapid depletion of fossil fuels, particularly petroleum and natural gas, makes consideration of various alternative sources a matter of great importance. This conference will provide the latest information on the status and future possibilities for the following alternative sources of energy: nuclear breeders, nuclear fusion, solar energy, ocean thermal energy, geothermal energy, wind energy, synthetic fuels and hydrogen. Although the primary emphasis will be on the technologies associated with each energy source, discussion on economic, social and environmental effects will also be included. The conference is intended to provide the latest information on alternative energy sources. Because of the importance of utilizing alternatives to petroleum and natural gas, the conference will be open to all energy scientists, engineers, educators, architects, economists and planners from industry, universities, research organizations and government agencies. Information a b o u t registration, the conference venue and costs will be announced in the Advance Program, to be mailed in September 1987 to those requesting it. Three days of invited lectures, paper and poster presentations, and discussions are planned. The program will include sessions on: solar energy; thermal storage; heat pumps; desalination; biomass and bioconversion; biogas; photovoltaics; ocean thermal energy; wind energy; hydro power; tide power; defence energy systems; wave energy; nuclear breeders and nuclear fusion; hydrogen energy; coal gasification and liquefaction; oil shale and tar sands; synthetic fuels; waste heat recovery; combustion; electric generation alternatives; salinity gradient power; geothermal energy; HVAC alternatives; energy conservation; environmental problems; economics and policy; energy management, planning and education. A typewritten abstract (approximate length, 200 words) and title, together with name, affiliation and address, on one sheet of paper, should be sent to the following address before April 30, 1987:

79 Dr. T. Nejat Veziroglu, Director, Clean Energy Research Institute, University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida 33124, U.S.A. The authors of the selected abstracts will be informed by June 30, 1987. Extended abstracts will be due by October 1, 1987 and the full length papers will be due by November 30, 1987.
