ESF RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN TOXICOLOGY (PFT) MAMMALIAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL

TOXICOLOGY

The new ESF Programme of Research Fellowships in Toxicology (PFT), encompassing Environmental Toxicology, succeeds the ESF Programme of Grants for training and research in Toxicology (PGT) which ran from 198 1 to 1990 and which was established at the initiative of the European Medical Research Councils (EMRC). The broadening of the scope to encompass Environmental Toxicology represents a logical and necessary step, responding to the recognised need to stimulate the development of both fields of toxicology in Europe. The Toxicology Steering Committee (TSC), which is in charge of the scientific management of the PFT, will meet annually to examine and award the applications received. 1991 is the first year of operation of this programme in its new form. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (3 to 12 months) and SHORT-TERM VISITING FELLOWSHIPS (up to two months) are offered to scientists working in European laboratories to go to laboratories in other European countries. No formal conditions of age, level or field of training are required, provided that the project contributes to furthering research in Toxicology in Europe. The deadline for submitting applications for RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS is 15 October 1991 to commence from 15 January 1992 at the earliest. SHORT-TERM VISITING FELLOWSHIPS can be applied for and are awarded at any time.

Symposium on Chlorinated Dioxins and Related Compounds 24-28 August 1992 Tampere Hall, Tampere, Finland

Purpose The purpose of the Twelfth Symposium is to define the forefront and assess future trends in the research on the analysis, exposure, toxicology, and risk assessment and management of halogenated dioxins and structurally related chemicals as well as of chemicals and mixtures that share their toxicological characteristics. Also studies on products used as substitutes for dioxin-containing materials in industrial applications, such as chlorinated paraffins, are within the scope of the meeting.
