INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON GEOTHERMAL ENERGY Florence, Italy, 1 1 - 14 May, 1982 The International Conference on Geothermal Energy, organized and sponsored by the BHRA Fluid Engineering, England, in conjunction with the Italian Ente Nazionale per l'Energia Elettrica (ENEL), was held in Florence from 11 to 14 May, 1982. Details of this Conference were given in Vol. 10, nos. 3/4 of this journal. The Organizing Committee accepted 67 papers, all of which will appear in the Proceedings, but only a selection of which were presented either orally or as posters during the Conference. An exhibition of geothermal instrumentation and of the activities of some Service Companies also accompanied the Conference. The 200 participants came from Europe, U.S.A., New Zealand, Japan and China. The objective of the Organizing Committee was to lay emphasis on the technological, economic and environmental aspects of geothermal energy, rather than a description of new geothermal areas either under exploration or in the early stages of exploitation. Nor were they disappointed in this respect, considering the large number of papers submitted and the excellent standard of most, although no real innovations were forthcoming. A certain interest was expressed for a probe designed and constructed by the CISE (Milan, Italy) for in-hole temperature and pressure measurements in temperature conditions of around
