Rumbesht Rostov-on-Don, USSR The complex of immunological methods included the evaluation of T- and B-systems of immunity, plasmocytie reaction of lymp~ no,des ,'~'~dspleen, the detection of complement, lysozyme, properdin, immune complexes and specific antibodies. The dynamics of immune status were followed in 240 rats and 80 rabbits with various forms of experimental tetanus intoxication, i.e. severe-with rapid lethal outcome (IMLD), slow 0/3 or 2/3 MLD) and local tetanus. In responses on the injection of 'IT observed sharp morphological disturbances and active plasmatization in lymph nodes. In early period of reaction proliferative ' ~ m ~ e of 1"- and B-lymphocytes were increased, and to the moment of clinical siggs is diminished. The same results were registered during determing of nonspecific bumorsl factors of defence. Immune complexes were in early period after injection of "11"and took place on the high level during the all period of dtsease. 'IT in the first immunological response stimulate and in the secondary response inhibit production of hemolizios and hemgglutiulus. The role of immunological factors alterations in the tetanus intoxication is d i s e ~ .

IMMUNOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SERUM AND CSF IN PATIENTS WITH MND A.Vidakovi~, S.Apostolski, V.Mileti~, J.Nikoli~, D.LavrM~, V.Rakocevik, Z.Marinkovi~ Depamnent of Neurology, UCC, Belgrade, Yugoslavia Serum and CSF immunological findings were analysed in 85 patients with clinically and electrophysiologically established diagtmsis of MND. Male to female ratio was 2.4:1; the mean age at onset was 52.9 years, ranging from 27 to 78. One patient had juwmile form of ALS with initia! symptoms occurring at the age of 15. Predominantly lower motor neuron involvement was observed in 7 patients, 29 patients had a syndrome of ALS with definite UMNS and 49 had ALS with PUMNS. 78 patients with MND were tested for serum levels of lgG,IgM,lgEJgA,C3,C4,total haemolytic titre of complement(THC) and circulating immtme complexes (CIC). Incidence of CIC (25.6%) was significantly higher in sere of MND patients comluued to nomud controls. This was in accordance with significantly lower THC levels. MND patients also had highe: ralne~ of C4. Two patients had severe hypogammaglobalivaemia. Serum protein immunoelectrophosesis was performed in 55 patients with lVlND. Munoclou.d gammopathy was detected in 4 patients and 1 had polyclonal lgA elevation. CSF examination was carded out in all patients. Increased CSF protein content (more than O.4g/L) was observed in 42 patients (49.4%). CSF albumin concentration and CSF! serum albumin ratio were elevated indicating mainly slight to moderate BBB damage in 41 patients Intrathacal synthesis of IgG was detected in 8 patients: 3 had CSF oligoclon~! hands (OCB), 3 had increased values of lgG index and IgG synthesis rate in the absence of OCB, and 2 had CSF monoclonal hands wit~h.o,.t.M protein in the serum. Three patients had parallel OCB in CSF and serum. These findingssupport autoimmunity in ALS.
