Announcements and Call for Papers First International Conference on Flow Interaction cam
Exhibition / Lectures on Interaction of Science and Arts
September 5-9, 1994 University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong The captioned conference is being organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Institute for Aerospace Research, National Research Council, Canada, and Technische Universit~it, Berlin, Germany. It aims to bring together researchers and engineers of diverse experiences to discuss and exchange ideas on topics involving interplay between two or more fluid phenomena in hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, wind engineering, water waves and internal flows; and interaction with solid structures or other physical disturbances. The Conference will include keynote lectures, plenary sessions, and discussion groups on a broad range of topics which will include (but will not be limited to): • Fluid-fluid interactions • Fluid-structure interactions • Fluid-heat interactions
• Combustion fluid mechnics-process interactions • Interactions between fluid and disturbances such as vibrations and acoustics • Nonlinear wave interactions in fluid • Wave-wave interactions Participants will also be invited to submit artwork for consideration in a joint exhibition with other artists and to participate in lectures on the interaction of science and art during the period of the Conference. It is hoped that discussions of the interaction between science and art will be promoted. Persons who intend to submit a paper or to participate in the Conference are asked to fill in a pre-registration form before March 31, 1993. Papers submitted should not have been published previously. Paper selection will be based upon extended abstracts of four pages including figures and references. They should state clearly the purpose, methods, and results of the work. Three copies of the extended abstract should be submitted by October 30, 1993. Authors will be notified of acceptance by January 31, 1994. A volume containing the extended abstracts of the papers accepted for presentation at the Conference will be given to all participants at the registration desk.

Advanced Study Institute on Unsteady Combustion
September 6-17, 1993 Praia da Granja, Portugal The objectives of this Advanced Study Institute are twofold: (1) to communicate information of the relative merits of forms of unsteady combustion with emphasis on practical applications, such as industrial burning equipment, ramjets, and internal combustion engines, and (2) to provide a forum for the discussion of new ideas and their application to design advanced combustion systems. Attention will be placed on the requirements for the development of low-emission equipment and the use of experimental and computational techniques to achieve the objectives'.
