INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RISK ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES AND FIRE SAFETY, 19 FEBRUARY 1990, THE LONDON TARA HOTEL, KENSINGTON, LONDON W8 Quantified risk assessment is being applied increasingly in several industries as a valuable aid towards ensuring that adequate safeguards are provided against any significant hazards. However, its application to some aspects of fire safety has been relatively slow. The conference will review the principal risk assessment techniques that are applied to hazards other than fire, and the existing qualitative methods of fire safety assessment. The suitability of risk assessment to fire will be discussed and examples of its application will be outlined. The aim of the conference is to view the way ahead. The conference, which is being organised by Technology Forum, will be chaired by Professor F. R. Farmer, FRS, who is a household name in the field of risk assessment. He will be supported by a strong team of acknowledged experts, who will draw on their experience either as safety assessors/regulators in the nuclear, chemical, offshore industries, etc, or as fire consultants. The programme will include the following topics: Conventional assessment of the fire safety and current developments Risk assessment methodology Reliability Assurance Human Factors Applications to chemical and nuclear plants, offshore facilities and buildings The fee for the conference is £180 plus VAT.
