Conference on Lubrication and Wear, London, 1%7
The last international conference on lubrication and wear arranged by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers was held in 1957 when over IOO papers on special&l subjects were presented. L~b~~c~~~ and ~ea~-Fu~~~~enta~s and ~~~l~c~t~~n to Design will be the title of the international conference to be held in London (Chu&h House, Westminster) in the week beginning September 25th, 1967. The aim of the meeting will be to relate the results of research to design requirements. Forty eminent authors have been invited to deliver review papers under the headings: fluid film lubrication, Hertzian conditions, lubrication and materials, and specific environments. Two main survey papers and two synthesising papers on the selection of bearings and lubricants will also be presented. The papers, which are all invited, will be issued well in advance to allow written communications to be submitted. After scrutiny by the Organising Committee, these communications will be printed and issued to delegates in advance of the opening data of the conference. Only delegates or prospective delegates can submit contributions, which should not be more than IOOO words long. Synopses of review papers will be published shortly and contributors can base their comments on these, if they wish. Further details will be available shortly from Mr. R. J. Millson, Editor of the Proceedings, at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Birdcage Walk, London. CEC - Coordinating Fuels and Lubricants
European Council for the Development
of Performance Tests for
The Council of the Coordinating European Council (CEC) met in Stockholm on the 10th of June, 1966, at the invitation of Mekanik of the Swedish Association of Engineers and Architects: delegates from nine countries were present. Dr. A. A. Mora of INTA (Spain) was elected Deputy Chairman of Council for a term of two years. The first CEC eng&e test procedwe will be published shortly. The formation of a new Transmission Oils Su~ommittee was approved and Mr. I. Rosen of Volvo (Sweden) was appointed its Convener. European countries which are not at present members of the CEC may apply for membership through the Secretariat, which is held by the Institute of Petroleum in London. It is important that potential new member countries should be able to contribute to the work of the CEC. The next meeting of the Council will be held in December, 1966. CEC’s address is: 61, New Cavendish Street, London, W. I., England. American Society of Mechanical Engineers Symposium on Lubrication in Nuclear Appliv cations, June C11,1967, Carillon Hotel, Miami Beach. Florida Callfor Papers. Subjects to be discussed at the Symposium will films, gas bearings, seals, materials, compatibility, high temperature hydrogen and helium. In all cases, emphasis is to be on: clarifying reporting data and operating experiences, and showing new research reactors, nuclear power units and accessories.
