The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan, Inc. (JASE) was founded in 1947 for the purpose of advancing and developing automotive science and technology, and contributing to the promotion of science and culture, and the progress of industries and the economy. JSAE has a wide range of members, including automotive researchers, engineers and students, with about 30,000 individual members and 510 corporate members. In order to provide its members with opportunities for the exchange of information, the presentation of study results and friendship with engineers at home and abroad, the Society organizes classes, symposiums, exhibitions and technical tours and issues many kinds of publications. JSAE participates in, and sponsors, international conferences. It is also engaged in the determination of automobile standards and awarding prizes to those who have achieved distinguished results in research activities on automotive engineering. Through these activities, JSAE strives to develop excellent automotive engineers and researchers who will work for the development of automotive technology. The Society offers its members opportunities for obtaining information and increasing friendship among engineers as follows: • JSAE Spring and Autumn Conventions • Technical tours • JAPAN Automotive Engineering Exhibition • Symposiums • Events held by JSAE branches • International events • Publication • JSAE Prizes • Incentive for presenting papers abroad JSAE is making efforts to establish and disseminate automobile standards. Since 1960, the Society has been engaged in establishment and dissemination of the Japanese Automobile Standard Organization (JASO) standards. The harmonization of standards is essential to the balanced development of international trade, and besides JASO JSAE has been contributing to the drafting JIS entrusted by the Agency of
