DECEMBER 2003 IOTAFOTADERMA (#119) What is the name given to these asymptomatic nodules on the helix?
Answer: These nodules are called elastotic nodules of the ear, or weathering nodules. They are found on both the helix and antihelix, arising in response to chronic actinic damage. Histologic examination reveals marked actinic elastosis, with irregular coarse elastotic fibers clumped centrally, forming the nodule.
