IOTADERMA #120 What dermatosis was originally known as Gomm-Button disease? Philip R. Cohen, MD Answer will appear in the February issue of the Journal.
DECEMBER 2003 IOTAFOTADERMA (#119) What is the name given to these asymptomatic nodules on the helix?
Answer: These nodules are called elastotic nodules of the ear, or weathering nodules. They are found on both the helix and antihelix, arising in response to chronic actinic damage. Histologic examination reveals marked actinic elastosis, with irregular coarse elastotic fibers clumped centrally, forming the nodule. Often there is overlying orthokeratosis with epithelial hyperplasia and telangiectasia. REFERENCES Requena L, Aguilar A, Sanchez-Yus E. Elastotic nodules of the ears. Cutis 1989;44:452-4. Weedon D.
