industrial news Mann+Hummel merges US divisions Mann+Hummel has merged two of its US based businesses into a single company called Mann+Hummel USA Inc. The merger of Mann+Hummel Filter Technology Inc (Greensboro, North Carolina) and Mann+Hummel Automotive Inc (Portage, Michigan) will unite the company's US based automotive and industrial filtration operations. Mann+Hummel USA Inc, which will be headquartered in Portage, will have combined sales of US$110 million and employ over 400 people at five locations throughout the USA. The new company expects its US sales to double by 2010. The merger of the two US businesses follows the announcement that Filterwerk Mann+Hummel GmbH in Germany will now be known as Mann+Hummel GmbH. Other group companies affected include Filtros Mann Ltda in Brazil, which becomes Mann+Hummel Brazil Ltda and Mann Filtr Jipap sro, which is now called Mann+Hummel (CZ) sro. Locations in Spain, Argentina, Mexico and the USA will follow suit. Each company will have 'Mann+Hummel' in its name, along with the particular country suffix. According to Mann+Hummel GmbH, the name change will not affect the products and services the it offers, and filtration and its associated products will remain its core buisness. Investment in filter media production in Brazil Ahlstrom’s FiberComposite division is to invest 2 million (US$2.4 million) to upgrade the filter media manufacturing line at its Louveira plant in Brazil. The investment in the production line, which currently manufactures automotive filter media products, will expand production capabilities and capacity, as well as improve product quality. In the future, the line will also be used to serve selected nonwoven and specialty filtration markets. The investment begins immediately and commercial output from the upgraded line is expectedin early 2004. The plant's normal production will continue throughout the modification process. Ahlstrom has been manufacturing filtration media in Brazil since 1995. According to Claudio Ermondi, vice president of Engine filtration, “This investment will allow us to fulfill these market requirements, and at the same time introduce new production capacity to meet the long term growing demand in the South American market.” Ahlstrom FiberComposites division is a leading supplier of engine filtration products to the transport industries.The division employs over 2500 people and operates in 16 sites in Europe, The Americas and Asia. Polish order for turnkey wastewater treatment plant
ARS Networks Inc's subsidiary, ARS Products Inc, has completed the merger with Majestic Refilter Ltd through the exchange of 2 million shares of ARS' common stock. Majestic Refilter has developed new filtration system that it says can substantially reduce harmful emissions produced by diesel engines. Its target markets are the truck, bus, train and heavy industrial equipment sectors. Commenting on the compeletion of the acquisition, Sydney Harland, president and CEO of ARS Networks, said, “Now that we have completed the purchase of ARS Refilter we are anxious to establish strategic alliances with manufacturers to supply the core components needed to implement our technology as quickly as possible. We are confident that ARS Refilter will be a major contributor in reducing the over 5 millions tonnes of harmful emissions caused by the over 15 million diesel engines in operation in the US, and in excess of 50 million world-wide.”
Zenon Environmental Inc has won a turnkey project, worth in excess of US$5 million, to supply its ZeeWeed® membrane technology to treat industrial wastewater from a major power plant in Poland. The company's ZeeWeed membranes are already in use at the same location, where they are used to purify water for boiler feed purposes. The new system will treat all the wastewater from the power plant for either discharge or reuse as pre-treatment for boiler feed water. According to Andrew Benedek, chairman and CEO of Zenon, “Many parts of the world are water short and power plants have a great need to reuse water.” He added, “This project is a good demonstration of capability to achieve full water recycle in a power plant.” Work on the new facility is currently underway and the plant is expected to be completed by February 2004. Zenon is a leading provider of advanced membrane products and services for water purification, wastewater treatment and water re-use to both industry and municipalities worldwide.
