No. 3447: Work of Donald D. Van Slyke. This report recommended the award of an Elliott Cresson Medal to Donald D. Van Slyke, of Port Jefferson, New York, "In consideration of his extensive biochemical researches which have resulted in the discovery of new analytical procedures and the invention of laboratory apparatus, both of which have found wide application in clinical chemistry, and thereby facilitated diagnosis and therapy." THE F R A N K L I N I N S T I T U T E M i n u t e s of t h e S t a t e d M e e t i n g October 21, 1964 The Stated Meeting of The Franklin Institute was held at 8:15 P.~. in Franklin Hall, following the Annual Medal Day Reception and Dinner, with approximately 398 members and guests present. After the introduction of former Medalists who were present, and a salute to the Committee on Science and the Arts for their invaluable work in nominating this year's outstanding candidates for awards, Wynn Laurence LePage, President, called the meeting to order and announced that the minutes of the May 20, 1964 Stated Meeting had been published in the June issue of the JOVRNAL. There being no corrections or additions, the minutes were approved as published. Dr. LePage announced that in accordance with tradition, the Board of Managers elected the Franklin Medalist for 1964, Professor Gregory Breit, to honorary membership in The Franklin Institute and presented Professor Breit with a Certificate of Honorary Membership and a Membership Card. The President then recognized the Sponsor for each Medalist, each Sponsor presenting his candidate for an Award. The presentation of the Medals was made by President LePage. Following the presentation of the Medals, the President introduced the speaker, Professor Gregory Breit, Donner Professor of Physics, Yale University and the recipient of the Franklin Medal for 1964, who presented an address entitled "The Pursuit of Nuclear Physics." The President expressed sincere thanks to Professor Breit for his talk and thanked all present for participating in this memorable evening. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 P.~. PETER GEYELIN
