Amide waxes as processing aid Paradigan Wax 90 from Abrit Industrial Waxes in the UK, increases the melt flow index in polystyrene, improving processing and giving better de~nitio~ in the mould. Paradigan Wax 77 enhances the flow of nylons. ~onta~: Abril pretrial Waxes, Stu~i Way, Village Fame Industrial Estate, Pyle, Mid Glamorgan, CF33 6NU, UK. Tel: +44-656744362.

Blowing agent masterbatches disperse faster Schering in the UK has introduced a range of blowing agent masterbatches under the Genitron tradename which are claimed to disperse faster than equivalent powders on existing processing equipment. The company says the ten compounds do not corrode moulds and show no signs of plate-outs. All the materials operate at between 150” and 280°C in a range of thermoplastics including polyolefins and styrenics. Foam density can be reduced by up to 30%) says Schering . contact: Sphering ~~~tria~ Cherni~a~~ Gorsey Lane, Widnes, Cheshire, WA8 OKE, UK. Tel: +44-51-495-2003.

Nucleating agent for polypropylene Geniset HM-07 is a nucleating agent from Schering in the UK specifically designed for polypropylene. It crystallizes at a higher temperature and faster rate than other nucleated and non-nucleated polymers, and the cooling time of mouldings can be *I993 Elsevier Science Publishers Ltd

reduced. A series of trials by Schering has shown that production output can be increased by between 10 % and 35 %. At the heart of the additive lies 7.5% of a controlled mixture of dimethylbenzylidene sorbitol isomers in a propylene homopoiymer carrier. This gives consistent performance and dispersion properties at low addition levels. Contact: Schering Industrial Chemicals, Gorsey lane, Widnes, Cheshire, WA8 OKE, UK, Tel: -f-44-51-4952003.

Adhesion promoters A range of non-hazardous adhesion promoters is currently being marketed in Europe by the Richard Baker Harrison Group in the UK. The range of products available is based on stabilized non-toxic metals and other propriety compounds. Aimed primarily at the rubber, adhesives and surface coatings markets, the Chartwell adhesion promoters are said to offer superior organic reactivity, stability in humid environments, and can be used in both water and solvent based systems. Additionally, they have proved to offer excellent abrasion resistance properties in moulded rubber applications and related mineral confining polymers. MARKETS Fire retardants for wire, cable, and fibre optics The use of polymers and additives in wire and cable applications is increasing rapidly as new communications and power distribution networks are constructed and existing systems are updated. Most changes are occurring as flbre optic technology replaces copper wire. The use of polymers and additives in high3
