CONFERENCE REPORT PDT in Laser Florence 2007 Villa Vivioni was once again the venue for Laser Florence which, this year, had joined forces with other laser organisations, namely the ISLMS 17th Bi-Annual Congress and the IALMS 22nd Annual Congress, to create a real festival of lasers. For those interested in PDT, this years Laser Florence excelled itself in having the majority of sessions devoted to clinical PDT. Besides its role in propagating the knowledge and practical aspects of lasers in medicine and surgery, Laser Florence has become the rendezvous for a circle of the ‘faithful’ who, in November each year, take time to meet up with old friends and update where they left off the previous year. One of the cachets of Laser Florence is the involvement of the venerable giants of laser science and clinical work in the company of many younger workers.

From the PDT point of view, Professor Longo and his colleagues in the organising committee should be congratulated for appreciating that a laser conference without PDT would be incomplete. The PDT ‘menu’ this year had much variety and comprised of clinical PDT for lung and oesophageal cancer together with dermatology and photodetection. Once again the participants enjoyed the Italian hospitality and the Florentine food and entertainment (Fig. 1). K.
