LED compared with the ones grown under white light. The content of chlorophyll pigments was higher with values around 10% for lettuces illuminated by LED. Conclusions: The results clearly show a favorable evolution of quality plants grown under LED light besides energy savings offered by them. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2014.07.277

Somatic cell count (SCC) is widely used as an indicator for health status of the udder. Somatic cell counts can be run on milk from the bulk tank as an indicator of herd mastitis status. Bulk tank SCC indicates the overall level of mammary inflammation in the milking herd at each milking. It is the bulk tank SCC that is used by the milk processor to determine milk quality premiums to the producer. The aim of this study was to investigate evolution somatic cell counts from milk composition to treatment with microwave. Milk samples were exposed to microwave treatment for different periods of time (10, 20, 30, 40, 60, and 120 s). From the sample the somatic cell count was determined using the instrument MT02® . This instrument is using viscosity to determine the number of somatic cells, after adding to 10 ml milk and 5 ml coagulation reagent. The somatic cell count was performed only on the milk samples collected in from Timis County. The results showed a decrease for SCC as the microwave time exposure increased and were in normally limit. For a treatment with microwave at 120 s time of exposure, SCC was below 100,000 cells/ml. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2014.07.276 The influence LED illumination on the development and quality of lettuce seedlings Elena Panter 1,∗ , Maria Pele 1 , Elena Maria Draghici 2 1

Introduction: Appropriate technologies are necessary to support more productive, environmentally friendly resource-efficient and resilient agriculture that supply sufficient food at the same time protecting biodiversity and to move towards a low energy, low emission and low waste economy. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of LED on production of lettuce. Materials and methods: Seeds of two varieties of lettuce were grown on perlite 2 mm diameter under controlled environment (temperature, humidity) and organic fertilizer. The three light treatments were: 40% Blue in 60% Red, 30% Blue in 70% Red and White light for 16 h of light and 8 h of darkness. Results: The percentage of germination was between 106.9% and 123.64% when exposed to LED compared with white light. Weight lettuce seedlings were higher in white light for both varieties. Vitamin C content was 35.34–42.23% and between 15.2 and 32.4% for carbohydrates in plants illuminated by

Petre). Introduction: Cucumbers, one of the species highly valued in consumption worldwide is grown and in greenhouses especially in soil conditions. Use of perlite is very little used in Romania because farmers do not fully mastered culture technology regarding perlite and organic fertilizer. The main aim of this study was to support the growers of cucumbers and to convince them to use of perlite technology and organic. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on mattresses filled with perlite with granulation of 2, 4 and 5 mm, with control over vegetation factors (temperature, light, humidity, atmospheric CO2 , organic and chemical fertilizers). Were used three hybrids. Results: Variants grown on perlite substrate with 4 mm granulation to which were used organic fertilizers showed the highest early yields compared to the other variants. The fruit analyses showed lower nitrate content in variants fertilized with organic products. Moreover the taste and flavor of the fruit were pronounced compared to fruit grown on the ground. Conclusions: The results clearly show a favorable evolution of production and of quality plants grown on perlite and with organic fertilizers. Furthermore this type of culture offers the possibility of environmental protection by replacing soil culture with the culture without soil. http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.jbiotec.2014.07.278 Research regarding the economic efficiency of using plant growth regulators to smooth brome crop (Bromus inermis L.) Elena Pet Banat’s University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, “King Michael I of Romania” from Timisoara, Romania E-mail address: petz [email protected]. Average economic efficiency calculations performed for the entire period of the experimental trial using smooth brome, specie showed efficacy of biostimulators Green fuse and Mega grow. After applying these two biostimulators, the highest average profit per unit area was recorded (Green fuse D181.70/ha, Mega grow D173.80/ha). Economic efficiency obtained following the application of growth regulators to smooth brome species resulted in a first year production profit/unit area value range from 75.85 to 127.00D/ha depending on biostimulator used. The profit value obtained is up to 12.93% higher compared to the untreated check. In the second year of production, profit/unit area values obtained
