Busloads of convention-goers visited the eleven helicopters and nine airplanes at the static display.
Another record performance was recorded by the 1990 AAMS Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee in September. An estimated 1,500 program administrators, medical directors, chief flight nurses, pilots and communications technicians from the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, South America and other regions of the world assembled at the 1,900-room Opryland Hotel for the event. The conference was the 11th annual meet for the air medical transport industry, sponsored by four national associations and hosted by Vanderbilt Lifeflight. The Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS), the National Flight Nurses Association (NFNA), the National EMS Pilots Association (NEMSPA) and the National Flight Paramedics Association (NFPA) were the event's sponsors. Aircraft and configurations at the AAMS conference will be covered in our November issue.
Highlights
Highlights included a seminar sponsored by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Services (CAAMS) (see page 13 of this issue), the election of new officers for AAMS, a record number of exhibitors, and five full educational tracks featuring 56 different classes for management, clinical, communication, aviation, and special interest groups. In addition, the Scientific Assembly featured 47 oral abstracts and 21 poster presentations. It was a big year for exhibitors, with more helicopters and airplanes in the exhibit hall and on static display than during any previous conference. Eleven twin-engine helicopters and nine turboprop and turbojet airplanes were parked on the ramp at the airport. Busloads of convention-goers arrived every half-hour to view the aircraft and their medical configurations. The November issue of the Journal will give a comprehensive overview of the

Frank Thomas, MD, ended his twoyear term as president of AAMS and passed the ceremonial gavel to Donnie Stamper, program director for Staff for Life (Columbia, MO). Elected as vice president/president-elect was Jane Wynn, RN, program director for CareFlite (Dallas, TX). Patty Campbell, RN, of Samaritan AirEvac (Phoenix, AZ) succeeded Maureen Mooney (Pensacola, FL) as president of the Foundation for Aeromedical Research (formerly the Aeromedical Research Foundation). At the conference, the foundation awarded research grants to Renee Holleran, RN (University Air Care, Cincinnati, OH), and Richard Cook, Jr., MD (LIFE LION, Hershey, PA). Several features evolving from the conference are planned in the next two issues of the Journal. In November, our focus will be on aircraft completion, and we will feature several of the aircraft on display in Nashville. December is our annual forecast issue, and will feature the prognosis of the new AAMS President Donnie Stamper and projections by key operators in the air medical industry. Next year's AAMS conference, the 12th annual meeting for the air medical transport industry, will be held October 12-19, 1991 in Tampa, Florida. Now is the time to start planning for yet another year of growth, safe operation, and c o m m i t m e n t to quality patient care.
