A blood sugar analyzer system for measuring the blood sugar concentration level in a blood specimen is provided. A sensor having a fixed enzyme membrane and a measuring electrode generates a reaction current proportional to the blood sugar level of the specimen, and a sampiing mechanism samples the sensor output at regular intervals. A memory receives data from the sampling and divides the data into a group of new data and a group of old data. A calculating .mechanism calculates the average value of each group, and the difference between the averages. When the difference exceeds a predetermined value, the latest sensed data value is selected as the rising point of the chemical reaction between the fixed enzyme membrane oftbe sensor and the blood sugar of the specimen.

A mcthod for determining thc activity of an angiotensin-converting enzyme is disclosed comprising the steps of mixing a liquid containing (i) a synthetic substrate X-hippuryI-L-dipeptide having the formula See Patent for Chemical Structure wherein X represents OH, NH2 or N(CH3)2, and when RI is H, R2 is H, and when RI is See Patent for Chemical Structure R2 is CH2CH(CH3)2, (ii) hippuricase and (iii) 4aminoantipyrine, with a liquid containing an angiotensin-converting enzyme; measuring colorimetrically the concentration of the quinonimine dye which is formed by adding an oxiding agent to the above mixture; and calculating the activity of the angiotensinconverting enzyme from the concentration of the quinonimine dye.

An antigen or antibody and an immunechemically neutral protein are immobilized in two stages on a microporous membrane coated with a protein such as zein or collagen. Immobilized antigen to Toxoplasma gondii is used in an immunoassay to detect the presence of antibody to Toxoplasma gnndii in serum. Antibody that becomes bound to the immobilized antigen is detected with an antibody- enzyme conjugate. Immobilizing the immunochemically netural protein on the membrane in a second stage immobilization step minimizes nonspecific binding during the immunoassay.
