PATENT ABSTRACIS

106

nucleoside triphosphate precursors are replaced with their 1-thiotriphosphate analogs in the polymerization step. This substitution results in more uniform bands of electrophoretically separated D N A fragments which, in turn, results in more accurate base determination.

A purified and isolated crylIl-type gene was obtained from a novel B.t. strain. The gene has a nucleotide base sequence coding for the amino acid sequence illustrated in FIG. 1. The 74.4 kDa protein produced by this gene is an irregularly shaped crystal that is toxic to coleopteran insects, including Colorado potato beetle and insects of the genus Diabrotica.

5187087 RECOMINBANTHERPESVIRUS OF TURKEYSANDLIVEVECTOR VACCINES DERIVEDTHEREOF Pulus J A Sondermeijer, Johannes Claessens, Albert P Mockett, Boxmeer, Netherlands assigned to AKZO N V The present invention is concerned with a recombinant Herpesvirus of Turkeys (HVT), containing a heterologus gene incorporated into an insertion-region of the genome of HVT. The invention also relates to a vector vaccine comprising such a recombinant HVT which expresses a heterologous antigenic polypeptide and induces an adequate immune response on infection of an appropriate host animal.

5187090 HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS T Y P E 57 A N D T H E D N A THEREOF Villiers Ethel-Michel de, Anja Hirsch-Behnam, Harald zur Hausen, Hirschberg, Federal Republic Of Germany assigned to Behringwerke Aktiengeseilschaft The invention describes the isolation for the first time of human papilloma virus (HPV) 57, the partial characterization of its genome and its cloning in pUC 19. This opens up a way of diagnosing those tumors (oral, genital and cutaneous tumors) which are associated with HPV 57.

5187098 DNA ENCODING HYBRID STREPTOKINASES WITH PLASMINOGEN FIBRIN BINDING DOMAINS Horst Malke, Joseph J Ferretti, Jena Lobeda, OK, German Democratic Republic assigned to Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma Compositions and methods of the synthesis of hybrid streptokinase with fibrin binding domains based on gene fusion technology. Recombinant DNA methods have been used to fuse gene segments for streptokinase and for fibrin-binding domains and express the fused gene in prokaryotic microorganisms, and the respective expressed protein is subsequently obtained by biotechnologic fermentation for the purpose of use in clinical medicine.

51~2~ PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A HIGH PURITY PROTAMINE-DNA COMPLEX AND PROCESS FOR USE OF SAME Sharifa Karali, John K Barberii A process is disclosed in which high purity protamine-DNA complexes are prepared by collecting nucleoprotamines specific developmental stages of a life form, specifically, amphibian, egg by low temperature processing. The process also includes the steps of sequential homogenization in a high concentration aqueous salt solution at a buffered low pH, followed by ultracentrifugation to remove insoluble matter. Either a crude mixture or pure isolate of the complexes may be produced. Pure isolates require aqueous chloroform extraction to isolate protein and to remove lipids. Lyophilization then removes chloroform and excess water. The isolate is then fractionated by single pass alumina chromatography. Dia-
