5516434 SINGLE CELL GAS FLOTATION SEPARATOR WITH FILTER MEDIA Cairo John A;Young John A Baton Rouge, LA, UNITED STATES assigned to Unicel Inc A simplified single cell apparatus and method for removal of suspended impurities in liquids using gas flotation and filtration is provided wherein the method and apparatus are preferably directed to induced gas flotation separation of suspended impurities in combination with a filter media for filtration removal of remaining suspended impurities. A filter media is contained within the single cell apparatus such that liquid exiting the vessel must pass through the filter media after having been subjected to flotation treatment.

material in ironmaking in a blast furnace. Zn contained in the iron scrap is removed in the step of sintering to enable a light-weight iron scrap to be used in a large quantity in the blast furnace and, at the same time, to enhance the yield of sintered ore in the step of sintering. In the production of a sintered ore as a raw material for use in a blast furnace by using a Dweight-Lloyd sintering machine, a mixture obtained by mixing a fine debris of an iron scrap with a raw material for a sintered ore is placed on a pallet to produce a scrap-bearing sintered ore. The mixture may be incorporated in a packed bed in its entirety, in its upper bed alone or in its lower bed alone. The iron scrap is fixed to the sintered ore and used as a material for use in a blast furnace. Further, the amount of coke used as a heat source can be reduced, which contributes a reduction in occurrence of CO2 and NO2 derived from combustion of coke.

This invention concerns a method of beneficiating graphite to a higher purity level by dislodging the impurities from graphite by attrition preferably in an attrition cell which has at least one set of opposing pitched impellers. A pulp is formed preferably essentially consisting of a flake graphite:attrition adjuvant:water in a ratio of 1:2:0.8 to 10 and this pulp subjected to attrition in an attrition cell.

An apparatus for gas bubble flotation comprises an angular flotation tank, at least one liquid inlet for a liquid containing suspended matter and a liquid admixed with gas bubbles, in which apparatus at least one liquid inlet is arranged in the vicinity of at least one flotation tank comer. Preferably, the flotation tank has a square cross section. This permits optimal utilization of the available space, and results in a continuously decreasing flow velocity and thus an improved flotation effect.
