8503927 PROCESS FOR DEWATERING MUNICIPAL AND OTHER SEWAGE SLUDGES J@zsef M@RAI, D@niel SZAMOSI, Andr@s G@L, Istv@n ZAGYVAI, Sulzbachstr. 38, D6603 Sulzbach, Federal Republic Of Germany ‘LICENCIA‘ TAL@Lassigned to M@NYOKAT ERT@KESITO@‘ @S INNOV@CI@ New process for dewatering the sludges arising from the aerobic and/or anaerobic decomposition of e.g. household sewages, by treating with chemical agents, which comprises adjusting the pH of the sludge to a value between 9 and 12 by adding at least one of a compound selected from the group consisting of calcium and magnesium hydroxide and calcium and magnesium oxide, then mixing 50 to 5000 g./m(3), of formaldehyde and/or dimethylolurea to the sludge suitably in the form of an aqueous solution, the optionally adding a dusty or granular substance capable of adsorbing oils and fats in an amount of 0.5 to 15 % by weight as calculated for the dry substance content of the sludge, and adding prior to the adjustment of the pH or after the optional treatment with said substance capable of adsorption to the sludge 20 to 500 g./m(3), of a flocculating agent, suitably a nonionic or cationic polymer with a molecular weight suitably higher than 100000, preferably higher than 2 millions to 3 millions, or a copolymeric electrolyte containing anionic and cationic groups, suitably in the form of an aqueous solution of 0.5 to 1 % by weight, then letting settle, removing the water from above the sediment and subjecting the sediment to further dewatering in a manner known in the art, suitably by the means of filtration and/or centrifuging.

8504334 EMERGENCY ESCAPE BREATHING APPARATUS Gabriel SPERGEL

An emergency escape breathing apparatus designed for a single use and throw-away function and to provide a short term air supply to the wearer in a dangerous environment including a smoke filled or burning building comprising a relatively rigid and transparent face mask (11) attachable to the head of the wearer, a pressurized bottle supply of air or oxygen-enriched air (14) adapted to be fed to said mask by a flow control assembly (15). Said assembly includes a rupturable diaphragm valve (21) and a pressurereducing reservoir (16), the valve at one end being connected to the mouth (14a) of the pressurized bottle, at the other end being connected to the reservoir inlet (16b), a flexible hose (13) at one end being connected to the face mask and at the other end being connected to the outlet (13b) of the reservoir. The assembly is adapted to provide conditions of pressure and gas content within the mask and which has a functioning exhalation valve (17) and may also be provided with filters (19) to eliminate inhalation of toxic elements in the ambient air and/or aid or substitute for said exhalation valve. The apparatus is of unitary structure, supportable and depending from the mask, capable of being folded into a compact unit and discardable after a single usage.

8504857 AID AND PROCESS FOR DEHYDRATING SLUDGE Kimihiko NODA, Yoji FUJIURA, Yoichi HASEGAWA, 15-68, Kohatakumakoji, Ujishi, Kyoto 611, Japan assigned to SANYO CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD; An organic fibrous material, prepared by pressure molding or moistening with water to increase the bulk density, and a high molecular flocculant are added to a sludge, and the resulting flocs are adjusted to 1 mm or less in diameter and dehydrated under vacuum or by filtration under pressure.
