A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT h a Love Williams R.N. The Cincinnati Congress had something for everyone, and informative, exciting sessions were the order of the week. The response of those who attended these sessions was visible proof that operating room nurses are keenly interested in the search for new knowledge in their specialty area. Delegates and other AORN members in attendance at the Annual House of Delegates meetings are to be congratulated: They were well-informed on the various issues presented, and as a result, many sound decisions were made which will enhance the growth and development of AORN. The annual meeting of Chapter Presidents and the Board of Directors provided valuable insight into chapter problem areas. Applicable suggestions and recommendations were received for consideration by the Board which recognizes the importance of good communications with the Chapters. Board Members welcome your thoughtful suggestions because thorough knowledge and understanding of membership needs are vital pre-requisites for meaningful Board decisions. For the second consecutive year, Membership Promotion Awards were presented to three AORN chapters for their outstanding work during the past year. We were delighted to announce the following winners: First Category-Hawaii Second Category-New Jersey Chapter $1 Third Category-Tarheels Chapter
April 1969
For the first time this year, three Journal Writing Awards were presented by the DePuy Manufacturing Co. Created to stimulate, encourage and recognize writing ability among OR nurses, the awards were presented to two OR nurses and a student nurse enrolled in an accredited school of nursing. Our congratulations to the winners: Ludmila Davis, California; Jacqueline Willingham, New Jersey and Evelyn Huff Smith, Student, Arizona. Four AORN members were also selected to receive Purdue Frederick Fellowships to be used specifically for graduate training in operating room nursing. Our congratulations and best wishes to the recipients: Christine E. Leman, Sister Mary Helen Richstatter, Yvonne N. Stock, and Sally Ann Thomas. A very special “thank you” goes to the AORN of Cincinnati for hosting the 16th Annual Congress. We are truly appreciative of the time, interest, and talents given by each Committee member who so willingly served under the capable guidance of General Chairman, Mrs. Patricia Copenhaver. In conclusion, the Congress was a stimulating learning experience. It is my wish to see the enthusiasm engendered at Cincinnati prevail throughout the coming year. Enthusiasm must be the lever of accomplishment of new projects and new goals for AORN. I look forward to working with the 1969 AORN Officers and Board members whose names may be found in the Congress Report.
