A NOTE ON "LASER CAVITY DUMPING USING OPTICAL BISTABILITY" by J. Gea-Banacloche, Weng W. Chow and M.O. Scully, Optics Comm. 46 (1983) 43. J. GEA-BANACLOCHE, Weng W. CHOW and M.O. SCULLY Department of Physics and Astronomy, The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM 87131, USA Received 3 February 1984
After publication o f our paper, we learned that a similar scheme had been proposed by T. Kobayashi, in Japan, in 1980 [ 1 ] and afterwards in other publications with other authors [2], unfortunately none o f which were known or accesible to us. The emphasis in our article, at any rate, was not so much on the relative novelty of the idea (which first occurred to one o f us (M.O.S.) several years ago, and has since been discussed several times within our group) as on a study o f its actual possibilities as a practical device. We thank T. Kobayashi, A. Morimoto and T. Sueta for supplying the information reported in this note.
