recipient's research production as "amazing, both in quality and quantity." He is one of the world authorities in the area of biliary excretion of xenobiotics. Indeed, his research in this area has ranged from studies of the basic mechanisms of hepatic metabolism and disposition of a wide range of foreign chemicals to the investigation c f the influence of modification of these mechanisms on toxic actions in intact animals. The Achievement Award recipient received his B.A. degree magna eum laude from Wartburg College in 1964. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in pharmacology from the University of Iowa in 1966 and 1968, respectively. It represents a landmark in the history of this Society to note that this year's recipient was introduced to the science of toxicology by his Ph.D. mentor who was the first recipient of the Achievement Award of the Society.
