F O C U S DuPont, Prismatic Powders enter agreement DuPont Coating Solutions and Prismatic Powders have signed a contract to market and sell a segment of their powder coatings using the brand name DuPont Colorsplash by Prismatic. The line is designed for applications in automotive wheels, bicycle and motorcycle finishes, and comprises vibrant colours, metallic special effect finishes, textures and two-coat colours. Akzo Nobel 2007: workforce For its fiscal 2007 (period ends 31 Dec 2007), Akzo Nobel NV has reported headcount of 42,600 (42,690 for its fiscal 2006), of which: coatings accounted for 32,400 (30,700) and chemicals 9100 (9700). By geographical area the US & Canada accounted for 6100 employees (5900), Latin America 2700 (2500), Asia 8400 (7900), the Netherlands 4900 (5100), Germany 3100 (3200), Sweden 3700 (3800), the UK 3000 (3100), and other European countries 9000 (9500). Growth of the business in emerging markets resulted in a workforce expansion of 990, while restructuring programs in the mature markets resulted in a decrease of 520. Acquisitions added 580 employees, while divestments resulted in an outflow of 1140. On 2 Jan 2008, the total number of employees increased by 26,380 due to the acquisition of ICI. The on sale to Henkel will result in a significant decrease in employees thereafter. Excluding other acquisitions and divestments, the workforce is expected to decrease due to the implementation of ICI integration programs and other restructuring

Akzo Nobel 2007: Akzo Nobel industrial activities - powder coatings For its fiscal 2007 (period ends 31 Dec 2007), the Powder Coatings segment of the Akzo Nobel Industrial Activities division of Akzo Nobel NV has reported revenue of €2052 M (€1959 M for its fiscal 2006). It is the largest global manufacturer of powder coatings and a world leader in powder coatings technology. Akzo Nobel reports that there were good volume increases and the business is clearly on a growth path, showing substantially above market rates in all markets. The focus on expansion in Eastern Europe and Asia was maintained, and there was improvement of returns on capital employed in Western Europe and the USA. Functional powders performed particularly well, achieving growth of more than 20%. The company also introduced Interpon D3000 to the architectural market in the USA. It says that this product is transforming the market, moving it away from liquid application on window frames to powder application. Guertin is engaged in the production and distribution of adhesives and sealants, liquid and powder industrial coatings, and resins in Winnipeg. Jotun’s Paints plant begin commercial production; retail outlets increase Paints manufacturer Jotun India Pvt Ltd, belonging to the Norwaybased Jotun Group, is set to commence production at its $25 M plant at Ranjangaon in Pune in Apr 2008. Initially, the plant will operate at 60% of installed capacity. The company proposes to increase its number of retail outlets in India from the present 120 to 250 by end 2009. Jotun India, which recorded a turnover of Rup 1.5 bn in 2007, has a market share of about 25% in the marine coatings market. The market for paints in India is estimated at about Rup 80 bn and growing at 12%/y. Jotun India expects to garner about 8% of the Indian paints market by 2013.
