American Academy of Dental Radiology: Officers, 1988-89 Dr. Farouk Mourshed, of Howard University, will serve as president of the American Academy of Dental Radiology. Dr. Mourshed was born in Cairo, Egypt. He is a 1958 graduate of the College of Dentistry, Cairo University, and received a master’s degree in dental radiology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963. He has had an extensive career as a dental radiologist, including 27 years of teaching experience, seven of them at the College of Dentistry, Cairo University. Since 1968, he has been a faculty member of the College of Dentistry, Howard University, Washington, D.C. He was promoted to the rank of full professor in 1974 and has been the chairman of the Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology since the same year. Dr. Mourshed has been an active member of the American Academy of Dental Radiology since 1963. Over the years, he has served as a member or chairman of several committees, participated in developing the Glossary of Dental Radiology (1978), and was the chairman of an ad hoc committee to explore the possibility of establishing a Journal of Oral Radiology (198586). Dr. Mourshed has served on the executive council of the Academy since 1984. He served as a councilor-at-large for 2 years (198486), vice president/program chairman (1986-87), and president-elect/chairman of Local Arrangements Committee (1987-88). Dr. Mourshed has been engaged in several research projects in dental radiology and has published several research papers and abstracts. Dr. Mourshed is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Fellow of the American Academy of Dental Radiology, and past chairman of the Oral Radiology Section of the American Association of Dental Schools.
