AMERICAN BOARD OF ORTHODONTICS Jack G. Dale honored with the Albert H. Ketcham Award The American Board of Orthodontics is honored and proud to bestow the Albert H. Ketcham Award on Jack G. Dale, Toronto, Canada. For the last half century, Jack Dale has dedicated himself to orthodontics, both in his work and in his play. Since 1961, he has shared his knowledge and his experience with students and colleagues throughout the world. He has presented over 200 lectures at 50 universities and 100 associations worldwide — and his lectures continue! Dr Dale has been involved in over 75 publications, including 11 books. Currently, there are 2 more in preparation. The books represent a wide range of topics, including Graduate Orthodontic Education (Graber, Vanarsdall), Basic Science Education (Ten Cate), Public Relations (AAO), Standard of Care (ABO), Oral Anatomy (University of Toronto), Education Research and Clinical Care (Harvard University), Treatment (Tweed Foundation), and 5 books on history and/or biographies. He has served as president of over 15 organizations, including the Canadian Association of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontics, the Harvard Society for the Advancement of Orthodontics, the Eastern Component of the Edward H. Angle Society, and the Charles Tweed Foundation

Changing of the Guard During each calendar year, a Director from 1 of the AAO constituents rotates off the American Board of Orthodontics and is replaced by someone else from that particular constituent. In 1999, the rotation took place with the Midwest Association of Orthodontists. John Casko from Iowa City, Iowa, rotated off the Board and is being replaced by Vance Dykhouse of Kansas City, Mo.

dent of the Eastern Jackson County Dental Health Group, the American Society of Dentistry for Children, the Tweed Study Club of the Midwest, and the Greater Kansas City Society of Orthodontists. Dr Dykhouse served as an examiner for the State of Missouri Orthodontic Specialty Board from 1979 to 1988, and he was the chair of this board in 1981, 1984, and 1987. The American Board of Orthodontics is looking forward to Vance’s tenure as a Director. John Casko, the immediate past president of the American Board of Orthodontics, began his service in 1991. He has represented the Midwest Association with distinction, fairness, and the ability to render proactive leadership. Dr Casko received his DDS degree and his MS degree in orthodontics from Georgetown University and PhD degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Carolina. In 1976, Dr Casko was appointed Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry. He has given over 200 continuing education courses and national presentations on the topics of Orthodontic Diagnosis and Treatment Planning and Surgical Orthodontic Treatment. Dr Casko is an experienced clinician and has applied his formal training in higher education to develop and present continuing education courses that are widely recognized for a high degree of clarity, organization, and practical application. Dr Casko is currently President of the Midwest Component of the Edward H. Angle Society of Orthodontists. He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a member of the Iowa Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists. He is also editor of Practical Reviews in Orthodontics.
