Tutorial workshop The AFS tutorial w o r k s h o p on 3 - - 4 J a n u a r y 1994 is a 'Rookie Course in Filtration', to be t a u g h t by Tony Shucosky, Ed Gregor, F r a n k Tiller a n d Bob B a u m a n n . Tony Shucosky is a n a u t h o r i t y o n filtration system design a n d specification. VP of Memtec America, h e is f a m i l i a r w i t h e q u i p m e n t used in t h e process industries. Ed Gregor is VP of Tetko, a n d a n i n t e r n a t i o n a l l y recognised e x p e r t in filter m e d i a a n d materials, fine filtration systems, a n d OEM h a r d w a r e a n d software. Bob B a u m a n n is a recognised designer of drinking- a n d w a s t e w a t e r t r e a t m e n t systems. A retired professor from Iowa State University, he n o w consults on filtration a n d s e p a r a t i o n systems. F r a n k Tiller is t h e world's leading filtration fellow. With 60 years in t h e industry, his theory a n d practices are recognised by o p e r a t i n g c o m p a n i e s a n d e q u i p m e n t m a n u f a c t u r e r s for t h e selection a n d specification of f l u i d / p a r t i c l e s e p a r a t i o n systems. Fees will be $265 for AFS m e m b e r s (including c o r p o r a t e m e m b e r employees) a n d $365 for n o n - m e m b e r s .

In t h e morning, each session leader a n d / o r on-site c o o r d i n a t o r will give a n hour-long s u m m a r y of t h e i r T h u r s d a y session. By c o m p a r i n g
t h e s u m m a r i e s of t h e four sessions, t h e group will seek to avoid overlap a m o n g t h e courses, a n d so create a final d o c u m e n t t h a t will be used for course instruction.
AFS can only afford to p a y f o r 40 attendees to this conference. This will be done a first-come, first-served basis. After we have 40 people, others can come, but the cost will be $175 p e t attendee. Please contact AFS headquarters as soon as possible, so that we can make f i n a l arrangements for the meeting.
Texas Chapter: Produced water seminar The 4 t h A n n u a l Produced Water S e m i n a r will be held 2 0 - - 2 1 J a n u a r y 1994 a t t h e S o u t h Shore H a r b o r Conference C e n t e r in League City, Texas. The m e e t i n g is being organised by t h e Texas Chapter, a n d is devoted to all aspects of p r o d u c e d w a t e r in ona n d offshore oilfields. Prospective a u t h o r s are invited to c o n t a c t t h e organisers ff they wish to offer papers.

There will be a total of 40 sessions, as well as a p o s t e r session on t h e afternoon of Monday 9 May. It is also p l a n n e d to hold a n all-day w o r k s h o p on Hydrocyclones & Centrifuges, for w h i c h course a c o n t i n u i n g e d u c a t i o n u n i t will be offered in collaboration with Iowa State University. Papers are being solicited by Sandeep Sharma, t h e Meeting C h a i r m a n , with p a r t i c u l a r i n t e r e s t in encouraging more p a p e r s on e n v i r o n m e n t a l topics a n d on a i r / g a s filtration a n d separation.
