THE CHARTERED SOCIETY OF PHYSIOTHERAPY

Annual Congress Pavilion Theatre, Winter Gardens, Blackpool SEPTEMBER 19-20, 1991

General Information The Annual Congress for 1991 will be held in the Pavilion Theatre of the Winter Gardens Complex, Blackpool. The Congress will open at 10 am on Thursday, September 19, and is scheduled to finish mid-afternoon on Friday, September 20. The Congress will include the Annual Representatives' Conference which is open to all members of the Society. There will be t w o days of varied and interesting discussion on issues of concern to Chartered physiotherapists. The AGM of the Chartered Society will be held on September 19. All members are invited t o attend. Please bring your Branch card with you. This year's Congress will not feature such a large clinical programme, as many paper presenters are attending the World Congress in London at the end of July. However, there will be a Founders' Lecture; the Annual General Meeting; Fellowships Ceremony; fringe meetings on clinical topics; poster sessions; presentations, social events, information displays and fringe meetings organised by Specific Interest Groups. Any Specific Interest Group wishing t o exhibit or organise an event, which has not yet indicated a desire t o do so, should contact the Events Organiser at the CSP. In addition to the above, there will be a large trade exhibition which is once again being well supported. Exhibitors will be launching new products at the show and some are organising meetings and receptions during the Congress period. The trade exhibition was very well attended by delegates at the 1990 Congress and it is hoped that this will be repeated this year. Various charities and voluntary organisations will also be represented at the exhibition. The afternoon sessions of the exhibition will be open to schools, colleges, hospitals, etc. If you would like t o arrange attendance for a group from your place of work or locality, please contact the Events Unit for assistance. There will be no registration fee for this year's Congress. If you wish to attend please complete and return the application form opposite. In addition to Conference, admission to the exhibition and all the fringe activities, you are warmly invited to attend any (or all) of the social activities planned. These consist of a welcome evening in the Winter Gardens - with jazz band, local food, and tram trip through the illuminations; Civic Reception, hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackpool; Congress dinner andlor Congress disco. As last year, everyone is invited to attend the Civic Reception. Following on from the Reception you are invited to attend either the dinner or the disco. Included in the disco ticket price is a buffet supper and late licence which represents excellent value for money. All dinner guests are warmly invited to attend the disco afterwards. We would like t o hold another Fun Run this year; if you are interested, please contact the Events Organiser. The Winter Gardens Opera House will be presenting '42nd Street' during the period of Congress. It has offered us reduced rates for a large party on the evening of Friday 20th; if you would like to attend, again please contact the Events Organiser. Accommodation in Blackpool is always a t a premium, but never more so than during the illuminations period. Please ensure you book your accommodation in plenty of time. All registrants for Congress will receive an accommodation list; please use it to contact hotels or guest houses directly. We have managed to negotiate special rates at the Imperial, Pembroke and Savoy Hotels, which are all at the 314-star end of the market. If you wish to find out more about these, please contact the Events Unit. Blackpool is easily reached by both rail and road. When there is no direct service, the town is only 20 minutes by train from Preston, which has a direct service to most parts of the country. Blackpool is also served by the M55, which links into the M 6 and thus the motorway network to the rest of the country. Those wishing to fly can use the local airport, which is situated a short distance from the town. Anyone with travel queries is advised to contact the Events Organiser.

All in all a varied and full Congress is offered. Please return your registration form as soon as passible to secure your place. If you have never attended Congress before, please try to make 1991 your first visit. If you require any further information, do not hesitate t o contact the Events Organiser at the Chartered Society. We look forward to welcoming you.
