AODD diaphragms for paint and coatings

The new full stroke PTFE (Teflon) diaphragms (pictured on left) and older, lowerflowing models (pictured on right).

Wilden has developed a new range of full stroke PTFE (Teflon) diaphragms for use on its air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pump lines that are used in paint and coatings manufacture. Wilden says that the full-stroke design of the diaphragms improves the reliability of pump performance in paint and coatings applications. This is due to increased product displacement per stroke, which translates into greater flow rates and higher efficiencies than are found in pumps that operate with reduced-stroke PTFE diaphragms.

The full stroke PTFE diaphragms use the same shaft and piston combinations as Wilden’s standard rubber and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) diaphragms, and are easily retrofittable to existing pumps without the need for any extra components. The diaphragms are available on Wilden’s bolted-configuration 25 mm (1 in), 38 mm (1.5 in) and 76 mm (3 in) stainless-steel and aluminium Advanced Series Metal AODD pumps, which are suitable for paint and coatings manufacturing. www.wildenpump.com

Hybrid design offers strength and long life Herborner Pumpenfabrik has developed WATERblue-H, a self-priming pool water circulation pump. The pump has a hybrid design, which enables it to withstand pressure of up to 3 bars, and is made of bronze, high-strength glass-fibre-reinforced polypropylene and polyamide. Its service life has been extended by fitting it with larger shafts and bearings, and the pump and the motor also have a shared shaft featuring additionally strengthened bearings. The fixed bearing is reinforced and designed for long-lasting service.

Herborner says that the pumps can help minimise energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Depending on requirements, the pump can be powered by a high efficiency IE2 motor, a permanent magnet motor (PM), a single-phase motor up to 2.2 kW or an NEMA motor for the American market. PM motors save considerable amounts of energy and increase the efficiency level by up to 13%, accordingly to Wolfram Kuhn, president of Herborner Pumpenfabrik. www.herborner-pumpen.de
