AODD pumps for paint and coatings
New range for high pressure extrusion
Wilden has developed a range of bolted style replacement air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps for paint and coatings manufacture. The pumps can be installed in an existing pump footprint without disturbing piping.
Maag has improved its trudex series of gear pumps for highpressure extrusion. The new generation features a new gear geometry which can improve efficiency, and a modified pump bearing which could increase emergency running.
rate and improve efficiency. Fullstroke PTFE diaphragms and DIN flanges are available for specific application requirements. www.wildenpump.com
The AODD pumps are currently available in the Advanced Series Metal 25 mm (1 in) bolted stainless steel and aluminium, 38mm (1-1/2 in) bolted stainless steel, and 76 mm (3 in) bolted stainless steel and aluminium models. Wilden drop-in style pumps have larger flow paths than the pump they are replacing, which can increase flow rates and decrease energy consumption. The bolted pumps include a variety of elastomer options, as well as the Pro-Flo X air distribution system which allows the pump user to control the flow
The company says that these pumps have been developed as a response to increased demand for gear pumps designed for high-pressure applications involving highly complex processes, such as the modern foam processing used for materials-efficient foam pipes as well as blow film processes. The
The Classic Series comprises eight different products, including the Classic Series FireRanger MP and the Classic Series Tanker, while the Star Series can be configured to meet any customer requirement. The Classic Series FireRanger Mini Pumper incorporates an extruded aluminium body with spacious compartments and roll-up doors. It is equipped with a Hale DSD pump that is rated to 1,250 gallons per minute (GPM) and a one-touch operation 150CFM Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS). The FireRanger is built upon a Ford F-550 with the 6.7L Power Stroke turbo diesel engine rated to 300 HP and an automatic transmission. www.worldpumps.com
use of modern filter equipment for ultraclean plastics also requires increasingly high pressure levels during extrusion. Currently, extrusion equipment works with operating pressures of >120 bar, and the pressure at the tool itself is even as high as >400 bar. The pumps are available with various tempering options, and Maag also offers special configuration of the pump to match a specific customer requirement profile as an optional service. www.maag.com

The Classic Series Tanker offers an pump-under-tank module configuration with a Hale AP50 500 GPM Power Take Offdriven pump, a 2,000 gallon water tank and a Newton 10 in manual swivel dump. It rides on a medium-duty Kenworth T370 4x2 chassis with the PACCAR PX-8 engine rated to 360 HP and an EVS 3000 Allison automatic transmission. The Star Series product line has a durable framework and more usable compartment space, custom designed tank, lower centre of gravity, control panel and increased serviceability. The Star includes two Transformer Pumpers and a rear mount platform that features a high flow capacity water system. www.crimson-fire.com
The Southern-African German Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the GermanAfrican Business Association will jointly host a pavilion at the Pumps, Valves and Pipes Africa 2011 Exhibition. Germany is committed to numerous water sustainability projects in Africa, and is one of the biggest bilateral donors worldwide. According to Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, former Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany, 40% of the more than €450-million allocated to countries in need of aid every year goes to Africa. “Our services are dedicated to opening new markets and accessing opportunities in Africa and beyond,” says Shaan Padayachy, Assistant Trade Fairs Services, Southern-African German Chamber of Commerce. According to Padayachy, exports from South Africa to Germany have increased by over 11% from €3.94-billion in 2009, to €4.38-billion by October/ November 2010. Imports from Germany to South Africa have also grown by over 12% from €5.70-billion in 2009, to
€6.55-billion according to the October/November 2010 figures. German companies are active in Kenya, Tanzania, Congo and others, in trans-border water management and sewage systems construction. The Congo catchment, which has an area of 3 700 000 km2, is a lifeline to nine countries but grossly underdeveloped. As well as showcasing the latest technologies and innovations that German exhibitors have to offer, the German pavilion is aligned to the objectives of the German Water Partnership (GWP). GWP’s aim is to contribute to achieving water-related UN Millennium Development Goals. One of these goals is to halve the number of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water by 2015. A wide variety of products from Germany will also be showcased at the exhibition, including RITZ, which has been manufacturing pumps for more than 130 years. The show takes place from 7 to 9 June 2011 at Gallagher Convention Centre, Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa. www.exhibitionsafrica.com
