Dustcheck maximizes protection for pneumatic conveying A new total-package filtration system from Dustcheck Ltd is said to give pneumatic-conveying systems complete protection from unfiltered air. Thought to be the first onesource package, the filtration system is based on the company’s SFJ self-contained venting filter as the primary unit. Additional protection is provided by supplementary inlet and guard filters integrated upstream and downstream of the SFJ. Engineered to detect aberrations in air flows and particulate build-up, the supplementary filters are equipped with differential pressure gauges and switching to monitor filter condition and produce any necessary alarms. The company believes this comprehensive protec-

tion will be welcomed in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries concerned to maintain high safeguards in pneumatic conveying. Compatible with the SFJ range, the supplementary filters incorporate cartridge filter elements for good filtration performance, compactness and easy maintenance. A wide range of filter capacities and media enable systems to be provided for all types of product. The supplementary filters can be fitted with various optional extras, including control packages, alarm panels and differential gauging and switching modes. SST introduce alternative to traditional stirred cells A crossflow filter device for the lab scale researcher has been announced by Sartorius Separation Technology (SST). Designated the Ultrasart X, this new filter device will be of particular interest to those involved in biomedical research because crossflow technology offers not only increased filfration speeds but a higher throughput and reduced fouling. Designed for the concentration, purification and diafiltration of biomolecules, the unit is autoclavable, and NaOH resistant. The Ultrasart X also enjoys the advantages of being able to process turbid solutions and does not require refilling. Made of Polyacetal, the filter diameter is 47 mm and has a chemical compatibility of pH l-14. Its maximum operating temperature is
100°C dry heat and it is autoclavable at 121°C for 30 minutes. “The development of the Ultrasart X demonstrates that we continue to find new innovative products for laboratory separation processes,” says SST’s Tony Capocci. “We are delighted with its performance so far. In a recent practical application test carried out by one of our customers, 50ml of 1% BSA was concentrated down to 1110th of the initial volume in less than 10 minutes.” Sartorius Separation Technology, Longmead Business Centre, Blenheim Road, Epsom, Surrey, KT19 90, UK.
