The Ninth Pan American Congress of Pharmacy and BiochemistrY will be held in Panama, November 26 through December 2, 1972. The Congress officially opens at 9:00 p.m., Sunday, November 26, and continues through the official closing session at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, December 2. During the week-long international meeting, symposia include the following themes-
• From Concept to Shelf: The Development of a Drug • Newer Trends in the Studies of Structure Activity Relationships • Advances in the Experimental Chemotherapy of Tropical Diseases • Recent Developments in the Study of Drug-Receptor Interactions • The Pharmacist and Health Activities • Pharmacy in the Americas: Past, Present and Future • Biological Availability: Determinant Factor of the Therapeutic Activity of Drugs • The Role of Pharmaceutics in Clinical Practice: A Need jor Re-evaluation • The Concept of Efficacy and Governmental Drug Licensing and Control • Food Science • Sustained Release Medication Sections and subsections at which contributed papers are to be presented include basic pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology; food sciences; economics and pharmaceutical administration; the teaching of pharmacy; hospital, social security and public health pharmacy; pharmacognosy and natural products; pharmacology and toxicology; pharmacopeias and formularies; history, legislation and practice of pharmacy; medicinal chemistry; chemistry and biochemistry, and pharmaceutical industry and technology. APhA members are invited to submit papers for presentation at the above-mentioned sections. Those interested should request an Abstract Form requiring title and a 100-500 word abstract by August 15 from George B. Griffenhagen, APhA, 2215 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20037. Registration forms and hotel information are also available by writing APhA. Registration fee for delegates and observers is $35 prior to September 30, and $45 after September 30, and for accompanying persons $15 prior to September 30, and $20 after September 30. The social program includes a buffet at the Union Club; a boat ride through the Panama Canal aboard the m/ s "Las Cruces;" a folklore ballet; a reception at the Golf Club to celebrate the Pan American Day of Pharmacists (December 1); horse races at the "President Remon" Race Track; and a closing buffet and dancing at the Continental Hotel. APhA offers a tour departing November 21 to Guatemala and Panama (described in the June 3 issue of the APhA Newsletter). Asian Pharmacy The Fourth Asian Congress of Pharmaceutical Sciences will be held December 3-9, 1972, in Bangkok, Thailand. The Congress opening session is set for 9: 00 a.m., Monday, December 4 at the Indra Regent Hotel, preceded on Sunday, December 3 with registration and the opening of exhibits. Sections include community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, pharmaceutical industry, pharmaceutical education, pharmaceutical jurisprudence, pharmacopeias, drug marketing, scientific and public health pharmacy. Social activities include a welcoming reception; floating market tour; Royal Palace tour; bowling, bridge and golf touruaments, a cultural night and a farewell banquet. Registration fee is $20 before October 31, and $25 beginning November 1.
