Atlas Copco completes Itubombas acquisition

wedish industrial company Atlas Copco has finalized its acquisition of the Brazilian pump rental business Itubombas Locação Comércio Importação e Exportação Ltda (see Pump Industry Analyst, April 2017). Based in Itu, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, Itubombas rents out diesel and electric driven centrifugal pumps to the oil and gas, construction and mining sectors. Itubombas employs around 40 people and had 2016 revenues of approximately BRL18 million. Itubombas is now part of the Specialty Rental division in Atlas Copco’s Construction Technique business area. As well as pumps, Construction Technique provides construction and demolition tools, portable compressors, generators and lighting towers.

John Crane invests in Middle East service

ealing specialist John Crane has opened a service centre in Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates. Working with local agent Abu Dhabi Oilfield Services, John Crane is setting up a mechanical seal service facility with state of the art tooling and test equipment. The facility will have seal workshops and offer seal installation and commissioning support. “John Crane has a long standing relationship with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (ADNOC) group of businesses and establishing a service centre in Ruwais is proof of our commitment to provide world class service and support to our customers,” explained Niall Eaglestone, sales and service

Alfa Laval forms Food & Water competence centre in Denmark

lfa Laval is transforming its manufacturing site in Søborg, Denmark into a Food & Water competence centre. Over the next 18 months, the Alfa Laval site in Søborg will shift its focus from manufacturing to sales, research & development and engineering and supply. Søborg will also have a new testing facility. By the end of this year, the company will have transferred the production of its Alfa Laval PureBallast ballast water treatment system to its plant in Aalborg, Denmark. Decanter manufacturing will move to Alfa Laval’s facility in Krakow, Poland. This transfer, which should be completed during the fourth quarter of 2018, is expected to affect about 100 employees in Søborg. Alfa Laval says these changes are designed to strengthen the company’s global position within food and water and to further improve cost competitiveness by consolidating manufacturing to fewer sites in Europe. “Alfa Laval has invested and built two important global competence and test centres in Denmark; in Kolding – hygienic fluid handling to the food and pharmaceutical industry, and recently in Aalborg – a unique test and training centre for different products and applications to the marine industry.
