1999 JEANNE DOYLE AWARD WINNER

Patricia Matula, MSN, RN, has been named the Jeanne Doyle Award winner for 1999. An Outcomes Coordinator at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA, Patricia was selected as the winner because of her outstanding contributions in vascular nursing education and practice. In her role, she provides direction, guidance, and coordination to healthcare providers in the achievement of patient outcomes; evaluates effects of care management strategies, LOS designations, and resource consumption; develops documentation and reporting systems to support care management delivery; participates in identifying needs, planning, and implementing educational programs for healthcare providers, patients, families, and the community; uses evidenced-based medicine to research protocols, guidelines, and clinical paths; and has developed and continues to implement and monitor case facilitation, a process for managing the care of non-pathway patients.

The Distinguished Service Award, established in 1993 by the National Board of Trustees and the Awards Committee, is presented to a member or members of SVN in recognition of outstanding leadership, participation, and contributions towards achieving the goals of SVN. Ruth Edwards, Donna Kowallek, and Robyn Strauss were named the 1999 recipients. Ruth Edwards, MS, RN, CVN, is Executive Director of the Minneapolis Vascular Institute in Edina, MN. She currently serves as President-Elect of SVN. She also is the president of the Minneapolis Chapter of SVN and has served as a Board Trustee. Donna Kowallek, MN, RN, CS, CVN, is Vascular Clinical Specialist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Reno, NV. She serves SVN as a Journal of Vascular Nursing Editorial Board Member and as an author for the SVN Core Curriculum. Robyn Strauss, BSN, RN, CVN, is Chair of the Chapter Task Force and a driving force behind SVN's active chapter formation activities. She is a Vascular Nurse at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, PA.

Nursing Writing Award. The Journal of Vascular Nursing, published by Mosby Publishing " Company based in St. Louis, MO, is the official journal of SVN. Ms. Page's article, "Factor V Leiden Mutation: A Nursing Perspective," appeared in the December 1998 issue. Ms. Page is Program Operations Director of Ambulatory Services at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinical/Fairview University Medical Center. In this role, she works to .* improve care for individuals with bleeding disorders. She shares her expertise through professional and community presentations as well as ~ , " ~ ~ through publishing. In 1990, she was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinic.
