Belgian Culture Collections I w a s h a p p y to discover the recent, e x t e n s i v e and w e l l - w r i t t e n article 'Genetic Resources W o r l d w i d e ' in TIBTECH (Ref. 1). In m y opinion, there is a clear d i s p r o p o r t i o n b e t w e e n the contrib u t i o n of genetic r e s o u r c e s collections to b i o t e c h n o l o g y a n d the inf o r m a t i o n readily available on their activities and services. A possible r e a s o n for this situation is that culture collections are insufficiently c o m m u n i c a t i v e w i t h the outside world. [Clearly, the a b s e n c e of the 'Belgian C o o r d i n a t e d Collections of M i c r o o r g a n i s m s ' [BCCM) from D.J. B o w e r ' s report is an e x a m p l e of the too silent w a y of living of the BCCM u p until now.] I fully u n d e r s t a n d that it was i m p o s s i b l e for the author to be exhaustive. Nevertheless, I believe that it is w o r t h w h i l e to inform TIBTECH r e a d e r s of the u n i q u e stock of m i c r o bial resources and c o m p l e m e n t a r y i n f o r m a t i o n h e l d by the BCCM.
