Bond-Laminates adds capacity BOND-LAMINATES, of Brilon, Germany, is increasing production capacity for its TEPEX® thermoplastic composite. The company has already installed a 620 mm wide production system with capacity of 400 tons/year, and it will now install an 850 mm wide line with capacity

of 800 tons/year for operation in early 2007. Bond-Laminates says that demand from the automotive sector for TEPEX glass reinforced polyamide (PA) 6 is growing. The material is said to have a high stiffness and strength to weight ratio, higher temperature

stability than glass/polypropylene (PP) and an energy absorption four times higher than that of steel. It is also being used in sporting goods and in the electronics and orthopaedic sectors. Bond-Laminates; www.bond-laminates.com

Hexcel posts first quarter results HEXCEL CORP, Stamford, Connecticut, USA, reports net sales for the 2006 first quarter of US$307 million, 5.6% higher than recorded in the first quarter of 2005. Net income for the quarter was $14.5 million. This compares to a net loss of $22.4 million in the first quarter of 2005. Commercial aerospace sales grew by 19.1% in constant currency, benefiting from scheduled increases in aircraft production in 2006 at Boeing and Airbus. Wind energy revenues grew 17.6% (in constant currency), while Ballistics revenues fell 18.8% compared to the 2005 first quarter and 15.2% compared to the 2005 fourth quarter as demand for soft body armour continued to settle back from the surge levels experienced in 2004. Space & Defense sales for the quarter increased by 8.5% in constant currency compared to the first quarter of 2005. Hexcel says demand from both US and European helicopter programmes remains strong. Hexcel expects sales growth for the full year of 2006 in constant currency in the ‘teens’ from both commercial aerospace and wind energy applications driven by increased aircraft production and wind turbine installations. Assuming reduced demand from ballistics applications compared to 2005, overall constant currency sales growth is expected to be about 10% for the year. Hexcel; www.hexcel.com
