WEVA AT THE WORLD VETERINARY ASSOCIATION CONGRESS The World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA) held its biannual congress, in conjunction with that of its parent body, The World Veterinary Association (WVA) in Yokohama, Japan, on 3-9 September 1995. Some 6,000 Japanese and over 1,000 foreign veterinarians attended this 25th Congress of the WVA held in the Pacifico, Yokohama. At the WVA General Assembly the outgoing President, Dr. Trevor Blackburn (GBR) was succeeded, in a closely fought contest, by Dr. Apostolos Rantsios (GRE), who defeated Prof. Charles Pilet (FRA) by 83 votes to 81. The assembly awarded the 26th Congress to Lyon (FRA), to be held in 1999. The 5th WEVA Congress, which ran concurrently, was highly successful. The program was formulated by WEVA, largely through the efforts of Dr. Pierre Lekeux, Chairman of its Scientific Subcommittee with the assistance and sponsorship of the Japan Racing Association. Over 150 equine oriented veterinarians attended the majority of the sessions which comprised: 1. An Equine Symposium on "Lameness in the Horse." Presentations were made by Dr. A. Bertone (USA), Prof. L.B. Jeffcott (GBR), Dr. R.J. Rose (AUS), and Dr. Y. Mizuno (JPN). The proceedings of this symposium will be published in the Journal of

Equine Veterinary Science. 2. Special topics with 5 invited
