The discovery of progesterone. Figs. 2, 3, and 8 show the typical progestational reaction seen in the rabbit uterus following injection of an extract of corpus luteum. The other figures show a normal control (Figs. 1 and 5); an immature control [Fig. 7); the result of giving half the minimal effective dose (Fig. 4); the result of giving an extract of follicular fluid (Figs. 6 and 9). Allen was a medical student at the time of these studies.
