Additives for Polymers

MATERIALS Powdered dyes for CD manufacture High-performance dyes for manufacturers of compact discs are now being offered in the more convenient and economical powder form, by CMR Technology Inc, Connecticut, USA. Well-known worldwide for its pre-mixed dye solutions for CD and DVD disc products, CMR has added the new form to provide customers who are already proficient in using powders with all the options, says president, Carl Rodia. Products include CMR 1000 blended dye powder, which is offered as a blend of dye powder and stabilizer. For mixing, it requires only a single solvent, saving time and money. As with the liquid dye product, the powder form is based on ‘patent-clear’ technology. Solutions of CMR 1000 are stable and do not recrystallize, so making recycling simple and economical (in contrast to other CD dyes on the market, claims CMR). Other products include CMR 5700 and CMR 0100 dye powders, both of which are easily substituted for commonly used dyes from Asian sources. The CMR 950 quencher is available for use with either. All the company’s dye products are engineered to produce discs of highest quality for recording at 1X, 2X, 4X and 6X speeds. CMR Technology claims to be the world’s only independent source of dyes for CD-R and DVD-R and dye process technology. CMR Technology, Trumbull, CT,USA; tel: +I-203 261 I365; fax: + I-203 268 1619

Meta-Range name include stabilizer, slip, lubrication, non-blocking and purging compounds. A laser marking compound and an anti-microbial masterbatch have also been introduced. Sales Director Brian McAndrew says that the new range represents a new phase in company policy, offering additive systems on their own, instead of as an adjunct to colouring. The emphasis will be on solid systems, using proprietary technology aimed at high concentrations with low let-down ratios. Metacol strategy is to develop its ES million business in Europe. It has invested $500 000 in setting up a liquid colour plant in France and expects to be operating in Germany within the next 12 months, either by building or by acquisition.
