A report from the AORN board of directors

ORN’s board of directors met for a board meeting at AORN headquarters in Denver on Aug. 26-27, 2011. All board members and AORN executive staff members were present. Immediately prior to this the meeting, the board held a strategic planning session with AORN staff leaders that was facilitated by Judy Pins, BSN, MHRD, MBA, RN, an AORN member and consultant. During the board meeting, the board approved the following: • AORN’s Form 990 Tax Return for 2010 • Restructuring AORN Works to focus on interim placement The board also heard reports regarding: Annual Investments (from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney); Compliance Committee; Finance and Audit Committee; Strategic Plan Dashboard Review; Membership and Universal Access; Industry, Health Care Organizations, and Ambulatory segments; Government Affairs; Recommended Practices plan; AORN Journal and Congress 2012. Share what you value with others We all have things in our Denise Jackson professional lives that we value, such as clinical resources that increase our knowledge or individuals who are great team players, or who provide guidance and mentorship. How we demonstrate that something is of value to us depends on how we define value, and definitions for value vary greatly. What actions are necessary to show others that we find something to be valuable? Do we simply tell others that we find it valuable or do we tell them about the attributes that make it valuable? Do we show others through our actions that we value something? If you have discovered something of value that helps you provide better care for your patients, tell others about it! Valued resources are used and tend to remain available, valued people tend to stay around, and valued behaviors tend to be repeated.
