CLEAR EDGE SUBSIDIARY TO DISTRIBUTE AWF PRODUCTS Clear Edge Group’s subsidiary operation Madison Filter P/L, based in Melbourne Australia, has formed a distribution venture with Australian Water Filter (AWF) Ltd. AWF, based in Queensland, develops systems to recycle car wash water, swimming pool backwash water, laundry water and ‘whole of house’ domestic water filtration. The company has also adapted its systems in order to produce potable water and is currently working with the Australian government and aid agencies to trial and supply units to Australia’s Asia and Pacific neighbours, including Asian Tsunami-affected areas, Clear Edge says. Madison Filter works in the fields of mining and mineral processing, waste water, chemicals, food, pulp and paper and environmental markets, making the distribution of AWF’s technology and systems to these markets for water recycling and purification a perfect complement to the Clear Edge/Madison Filter range of products and services, the company claims.

JAPANESE LIQUICEL MEMBRANE SYSTEM INSTALLED Membrana’s Cel Membrane Contactor technology has been selected for gas control in a functional water system in Japan. Functional water, sometimes referred to as activated water, uses reduced oxygen and increased hydrogen content to improve the cleaning characteristics in megasonic cleaning equipment. Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors are used around the world for adding or removing oxygen (O2), carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen (N2) to or from different liquids in the semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, photographic, food and beverage, and many other industries. Liqui-Cel Contactors are also used to add gasses to liquids to enhance megasonic cleaning. The beverage industry looks to membrane contactors for carbonation, nitrogenation and O2 removal. These reflect only a few examples of the variety of applications where the Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors are used. New applications are constantly being developed. Membrana has also provided a Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactor system for oxygen removal to Malaysia. The semiconductor plant will use the product to manufacture logic chips used in automobiles and industrial power applications.
COMPANIES TO PROMOTE DEMINERALISATION Applexion, Novasep Process and Eurodia Industrie SA have signed a worldwide cooperation agreement to promote a new combination of demineralisation technology for the sugar industry.
This improved demineralisation process combines Eurodia’s low electrodialysis conductivity system, Aqualyser LCD, with Applexion’s onexchange demineralisation process and is said to be perfectly adapted to sweeteners applications such as starch hydrolysates, beet sugar, cane sugar, and so on. The companies claim that the sweeteners industry will benefit from this new combination of technologies, which will significantly reduce the operating costs of demineralisation. The new process is said to require fewer chemicals and generates less efflluent.
