Computers in Industry An international, application-oriented research journal The journal Computers in Industry is happy to announce a revision of its aims and scope, together with a restructuring of its editorial leadership. The mission of the journal Computers in Industry under its new editorship is to publish original, high-quality, application-oriented research papers that: - show new trends in and options for the use of information technology in industry; - link or integrate different fields of technology in the broad area of computer applications for industry; further the state-of-the-art within each area of information technology for industry. Continuous quality policy, based on strict peer reviewing, shall ensure articles that are: Elsevier Science Publishers B.V.
technologically outstanding and front-end; application-oriented with a generalized message; - representative for research at an international level. General topics covered by the journal include, while not exclusively, the following research areas: the application of information technology in business processes such as design, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, physical distribution, and production management; - the use of information technology in knowledge-intensive fields such as quality control, logistics, engineering data management, product documentation; demonstration of the enabling capabilities of new or existing technologies such as hard realtime systems, knowledge engineering, applied fuzzy logic, collaborative work systems. -
Audience
The primary audience for the journal includes researchers and managers of technology, designers of integrated systems, users of such systems, designers of information technology components, and all those working on leading edge information technology applications in industry. Under the term industry, we understand all those branches producing goods or services with a certain emphasis on manufacturing sectors. The journal serves as the official publication medium for Technical Committee 5 of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP TC 5). The journal shall include material

from IFIP TC 5's major events, special sessions and outstanding work from its membership.
Authors
As authors, the journal welcomes all those of the leading-edge research community active in the fields mentioned. The journal accepts full research papers, short notes, discussions and reviews. We invite authors to submit their best research manuscripts to the journal. The journal shall serve the authors by means of: fast refereeing; insight in thorough referee reports; short publication times (average 8 months); - fifty free reprints of the published article.
