type of preconditioning conjugate gradient method is proposed. The iterative method can solve simultaneous linear equation Ax = b - where A is a positive definite sparse matrix - faster than the conventional direct solver even on a single CPU system. In addition, ideas of forces and load path on a section of a frame are proposed and compared with experiments.

(Briiel & Kjaer, Naerum) This paper describes a new optical principle along with it’s implementation into a non-contact laser based vibrometer, that features heretofore unseen benefits for single point non-contact vibration measurements. These benefits will be closely examined, focusing on their usefulness and impact on general vibration work. Furthermore, different application examples will be presented and evaluated. 9534009 Automotive Industries and Electronics Fumio Minozuma (Tokyo Science Univercities) For the developemental applications of electronics in future up to 2010, some fundamental proposals and opinions are followed as to transportation traffics, safety and driving, multimedia, reliabilities, components and production technologies, sales technologies, etc. And the histrical progress of my overlook are described shortly. 9534018 Sensors and Sensing Technology for Low Emission and High Efficiency Powertrain Systems Takao Sasayama, Sadayasu Ueno (Hitachi,

Ltd.), Teruo Yamauchi,

Shigeru Oho (Hitachi Research Labora-

tory) Sensors and sensing technology for the future powertrain systems are discussed aiming to obtain the solutions to realize ultra low emissions and low fuel consumption with minimum cost. It is concluded that the number of sensors should be minimized replacing the conventional sensors into more multi-functional sensors, such as a combustion pressure sensor. The use of digital signal processing technology is the cost effective way for the sampling and the conditioning of the information fused in the signals of these multi-functional sensors. The typical sensors and the applications of the sensing technology are also discussed in this paper. 9534027 Technical Trends in Automotive Sensors - In Particular Airbag, Speed and Gearteeth Sensors - Etsuo Ichimura (Kansei Corporation) This paper describes the technical trends in automotive sensors for Airbag, Antilock Brake and Electrical Speedometer. The volude of usage of these sensors will undoubtedly increase rapidly in the future as automotive safety heightens. 9534045 Development of an Interactive In-vehicle Information System Utilizing a Radio Pager Shigeki Gohda, Katsumi Miyake, Kohsuke Sakagami, Kunio Nishioka (Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd) An interactive in-vehicle information system utilizing a radio pager is introduced. The system provides both of request oriented information delivery and broadcasting while using a one-way radio communication means. An effective data compression method installed in the system enables sufficient data transfer capacity. 9534054 Optimum Constitution of Vehicle Body Structure Kunihiro Takahashi (Keio University) Optimum constitution of the vehicle body can be obtained by the computational optimization or the investigation of the physical meaning for the behavior of the structure. The method to express the concept of load transfer course in a body structure is introduced. Three desirable conditions for the structural stiffness are shown through the physical investigation. For the crashworthiness, desirable conditions can be shown with the concept of 5msRD. Optimum structures are obtained based on these conditions.

9534063 Reinforced Structure of Steel Sheet Beams with a Box Cross Section and its Bending Strength Takao Mori, Hidemitsu Hamano, Koji Suzuki (NKK Corporation) This paper presents the reinforced structure of bumper beams with a box cross section and the statically bending strength of its. The structure consists of two hat section beams and a reinforcement plate which is placed inside the box cross section and in the vertical direction of load line. It was confirmed experimentally that the plate is effective to arrest the buckling deformation in the side-wall of the beam and the absorbed energy of the beam increases. It can be reduced the weight of steel bumper beams by applying the reinforced structure. 9534072 Development of a Techneque for Analyzing the Resin Bumper’s Mechanical Properties During a Minor Collision Ykio Yoshida, Katuyuki Ueno, Hironori Tomizawa, Kouzou Oohara &to Auto Works, Ltd.) A technique that analyzes the behavior of a resin bumper during a minor collision by making use of structural analysis was developed, following experimental verification of the mechanical properties of the resin material in the range of speed which causes a dynamic deformation during a minor collision. 9534081 Developing the Method for Predicting the Load Applied to Truck Frame on Rough Road Noriyuki Kasuya, Manabu Tsuboi, Takeshi Matsuda (Toyota Motor Corporation) This paper shows an approach for lightening a truck frame. First, the method for predicting the input force applied to a truck frame on rough road has been developed. Good agreement was obtained between the results of the dynamic analysis program (ADAMS) and a experiment. Next, the effect of suspension specification, such as the dumping force of shock absorber, spring rate and bound stopper clearance, on the input load applied to a frame was studied. As a result, the weight of a frame can be decreased.

Effects of Repeating Load Waves on Fatigue Life of Spot9534090 Welded Joints for Thin Steel Sheet - Comparison of Mild Steel and High Strength Steel - Hiroshi Abe, Tsugihiko Satoh (Osaka Institute of Technology) In this study, fatigue lives of single spot-welded joint made of mild steel sheet and high strength steel sheets of 0.8 mm in thickness are obtained by experiments under the constant amplitude repeating loads of R = 0 and R = - 1 and the 2-steps repeating loads in tensile-shear, then fatigue lives for both kinds of steel are compared. Moreover, fatigue lives of multi spot-welded joints of single hat-type made of both kinds of steel sheets under torsional repeating loads of R = 0 and R = - 1 are obtained and compared. 9534108 Concurrent Engineering: An Overview Shuichi Fukuda (Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology) An overview of concurrent engineering is given. What differentiates concurrent engineering from the conventional product development is that it is collaboration-based and that every engineer with different background at different processes collaborate with a through-the-life-cycle view. And it is emphasized that it is a means toward establishing a more flexible and robust system rather than just to achieve more efficiency. Further, it is pointed out that what are required for collaboration results in bringing process transparency, which would facilitate the quality assurance procedures such as required by ISO9000. 9534117 Automotive Applications of Structural Optimization Naofumi Hotta, Junichi Fukushima, Yoshiaki Kobayashi, Masaaki Okamoto, Toru Ohara (Toyota Motor Corporation) A practical structural optimization technique is presented. Commercial optimization software (GENESIS, OPTISHAPE) with finite element analysis, sensitivity analysis, and numerical optimization capabilities were used for this study. Also, general purpose FEA program (DYNA3D)
